I had been using Norton Internet Security for several years and had gotten very disgusted with their product because of it's poor customer service and the quality of the product has gone downhill. I did some research on the internet for a new product and came across Bitdefender Internet Security 2007 which was rated as 1 of the top 10 products for securing your computer. I downloaded the 30 day trial software from their website and found it easy to install, easy to use and very effective. It blocked port scans and malicious websites trying to download malware onto my computer. They are also ICSA certified which means their software was tested and passed certain rigorous standards. They are also reasonably priced, I believed I paid $75.00 for a 2 year, 2 PC subscription.
I have been using this product for about 8 months and I am very satisfied with the results. The Internet Security v10 (2007) product comes with a personal firewall, antivirus, antispyware, antispam, parental controls and automatic updates. The automatic updates can use up a lot of resources when you set it to update every hour, which I don't feel is necessary so I usually disable the automatic updates and do a manual download twice a day which works out fine. The firewall also works with your wi-fi connection so that is a bonus. I have used this product in conjunction with my Outlook Express with no problems, you just have to make sure that before you launch Outlook, that you configure your antispam settings under the "settings" tab first and then open Outlook, then things should run smoothly.
You can set the antivirus module to scan your computer whenever it's convenient for you by setting the scan options manually. On the firewall module, it is easy to set manual rules for your programs and disabling it is simple too. You can watch the current activity and open ports in the activity window and block ports you don't want exposed. I would also recommend blocking all ICMP traffic on the firewall "advanced" tab, "block multicast traffic" and check the "stealth" mode tab which better hides your computer on the internet. In the "antispyware" module, under the "system info" tab, you can actually see a list of all running processes in your operating systems which is a handy feature. The only thing that I thought would have been nice to have would have been a module see current website activity. Another thing is with this product, it would be helpful if you had some type of knowledge about firewalls and antivirus product to get the full potential of this product.

Firewall:
West Coast Labs (W.C.L.) certifies BitDefender's Firewall. It continually monitors all incoming and outgoing data to and from your PC. You are able to configure the antivirus settings to meet your needs. Choose one of three different levels of security--aggressive, default or permissive. Or, you can set a custom level where you choose exactly what you want to scan and what you don't.
Antispyware:
In the antispyware tab, you can access the spyware statistics that include cookies blocked, registry blocked, scripts blocked and more. Furthermore, you can choose the protection level. You have the options of aggressive, default or permissive.
BitDefender will stop all major threats including adware, keyloggers, trojans and browser hijackers to keep your private information safe.
Other Security/Features:
BitDefender Internet Security comes complete with customizable web filters as part of the parental control function. You can set up user accounts and set specific criteria for the web filter per account. This will keep children away from potentially dangerous sites, pc damaging downloads or material you would rather they not access. Additionally, this software will scan email messages for keywords so you can ensure your kids aren't receiving harmful emails.
You can also set each account so the user can only access certain applications and use the computer during set hours of the day.
New with BitDefender Total Security are tune-up features. You can improve your PC's performance by removing unnecessary files directly from the BitDefender interface.
Ease of Use:
The BitDefender Internet Security interface is simple to navigate with organized tabs. Simply select General, Antivirus, Firewall, Antispam, Antispyware, Parental Control or Update to configure the settings of that function.
Ease of Installation/Setup:
We didn't have any problems installing or setting up BitDefender.

This is a budget-friendly price for a top-notch product. BitDefender will defend your computer and personal information so you can surf the web at ease.

I bought Bitdefender because I hate McAfee (which I have on my work laptop and which is constantly installing updates and which has the most incomprehensible UI I've ever seen... and I'm a software engineer) and don't like Norton much. But mostly because I had Zone Labs Internet Security Suite on my Vista laptop and it would freeze up the computer for up to 5 minutes at a time and prevent VNC from working. The Zone Labs e-mail support team basically told me in broken English to reinstall the product. So I UNinstalled it and put on BitDefender. Ha.
BitDefender installed flawlessly and does not seem to slow the machine down at all. I had trouble with the parental controls not working and contacted support through e-mail and their suggestions in broken English were useless too, but then after some time things started working... wierd. Automatic updates are wonderful. Now, the UI is popping up randomly and sometimes only PARTS of the UI is starting up... again wierd. I'm hoping another silent update will magically take care of that issue. At least it's not freezing up the machine and I FEEL safe, even though I have no proof that I am besides the fact that I don't have problems with viruses or anything like that. No viruses must mean it's working, right? :)
Besides I got licenses for 2 PCs for 2 years for the price of one. I think. And I LIKE that. All in all I'm much happier with BitDefender than I was with Nortoon, McAwful and ESPECIALLY Zoned Out Labs. I mean really, I was a loyal customer of the Zone Alarm free firewall for years and THIS is how they thank me for all those years of non-patronage? Seriously, the Zone Labs Internet Security Suite product is terribly flawed, especially on Vista. Avoid at all costs. I should go write a bad review for it right now.
BitDefender is a great product, runs unobtrusively and apparently has one of the best virus scanners around. I recommend it.

I purchased this product along with BitDefender Anti-Virus v10. However, I have not used this product as I have another very powerful internet security program which I am very happy with. Prior to purchasing this product, I read the consumer reviews by others and I ended up purchasing this particular product as there were so many satisfied customers using BitDefenders software. I gave it 1 star ONLY because I have not been able to use it as it is not compatible with my other internet security software. So you be the judge!

Hello All
I did almost a month of research before jumping into this Internet solution. I was still a bit doubtfull even when I was providing my CC details while buying this product from Amazon. Because my experience with my previous Internet Security suite (N**) was very painful to say the least.
My mind was thinking now here is a product that I am buying which has no MIRs , no big promises. Why am I doing this? But now that I have bought at FULL price I can safely list out the pros... ( as I have not found any CONs till now):
1. Bit Defender has made its IS Suite sooo.. user friendly that even my parents can handle it with peace of mind. And as I work in software , I can certify my parents as "not so tech savvy".
2. For a price of around 52$ that I paid for a subcription of 2 years for two PCs/Laptops makes me happy that I am securing two computers for two years for less than 2$ a month. This no one can and I assert no other Internet security software can even match ( even with (3 users deal from N***).
3. The unique B-HAVE logic of this BF IS Software is really cool. And the best part of this is that it does not go and eat up a lot of processeing memory(RAM).
4. And lastly this software is very quiet while working and do not disturb any of the processes the way a LiveUpdate from N*** does.
So now I have opened my guts out, it is upto you guys to decide when you will reach for your wallets while buying a IS Suite. And do let me know if this review helped you.

Excellent antivirus. Before I purchased one, I did research to find the best rated antivirus of 2006. I've been using McAfee, and have grown SICK of it. It never fully completes the virus scan, and allow many trojans, worms, and viruses to sneak in. It's also almost impossible to GET IT OFF THE COMPUTER (out of the registry). BitDefender has many many excellent options. It also scans the entire computer within a reasonable amount of time, services the comp. for two years, legally allows you to use it for 2 years, allows to you to scan comp., with an option that will shut the comp. down when it finishes-- I especially like that. I'm very skeptical at anything I put on my computer, but BitDefender seems to live up to its ratings in excellence.
