For the Price of a NAS July 20, 2008 W. Gilbertson (Southern Cal) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I finally bought my daughter a lap top, so ended up with a two year old Shuttle 2.4 G P4, 1Gb. I bought two WD 640 GB HD and had a WD 500 GB My Book. Installed WHS without issue, took everything off (keyboard, mouse, monitor) and I have been very happy ever since. No more reminding family to back up; no more exchanging music or photos using thumb drives. Ended up with a quiet, 1.5 TByte perfect backup and sharing solution. Next I am wiring the house for gigabyte network (cat6) in all rooms and getting draft "n" fro the lappies. A solid server for the non sys adinm.
WHS Review July 20, 2008 F. Perri Final version has bugs worked out. Note that Microsoft OneCare does not work on WHS. If you are comfortable with building your own computer server then this product will work for you. Very easy to access WHS from remote sites to obtain file(s). Overall, good product, just need to allow the rest of Microsoft to catch up with it.
Excellent solution~!!! July 5, 2008 Bok H. Shin (Torrance, CA) I've turned my old PC into Windows Home Server. Installation is easy without any problem. Runs great. I've got 3 PCs, 1 notebook, PlayStation, and CCTV... works perfect and smooth.

I installed this are on brand new Dell PowerEdge T105 with 2 drives. Followed all the instructions. Loaded all the required Dell drivers. The Home Server came up and seemed to work great. Then after a couple of backups I started getting corrupted files on the Home Server. When viewing the backups it would hang the client computer with all the corrupted file pop-ups. These are corrupted files on the Home Server. Contacted MS support (a vender does the support). Sent in the logs. They told me to delete all the back ups and try again. After doing that I still get corrupted files on the backups randomly. How can I rely on this? Turns out corrupted files is a know issue (KB#946676) with NO FIX on the horizon because they said it happens so RARELY! And the programs that are referenced in KB#946676 as causing corrupted files? I was not using any of them. Just the automatic backup. Avoid Windows Home Server at all costs. I wish there was something out there for Windows as cool as Apple's Time Machine.
A long time coming...... February 15, 2008 Kory J. Klimoski (Germany) I can't believe I had ever survived without Home Server. I am a MCSE and could do all this with other Microsoft products, but is a one stop shop!! The backup feature is second-to-none!! Although I haven't restored yet. If your looking for a central place for all of your media and files, look no further.
