 Was looking forward to it, but oh well. October 7, 2008

I have been really looking forward to playing this game for a long time, but then I went to buy it. As soon as I found out how much malicious software it contained through its DRM I decided that there is no way I'm infecting my semi uber pc with maxis's illegal DRM bugs (and yes the drm is illegal because it is not fully disclosed in the eula). I don't believe in playing pirated games, so even though maxis is treating me like a criminal and tempting me to become one I guess I will have to skip this game I REALLY wanted to play. It also sucks that you can't initialy play it without an internet connection. We keep a separate computer for our kid to use that is not connected to the internet for their protection, but I can't put this game on it due to the DRM registration. Would have been a fun game for me and a great game to teach my kid strategy gaming, but I guess I'll use the money I saved from not buying this game to pay for the next several months of everquest 2.

The game is engaging but too simple. The controls lack depth and there is a limitation on the way you can do things. Also the game is linear in the way it approaches gameplay. Overall it is very addicting.

This is pretty simple. There is nothing wrong with the game itself, it is incredibly fun. I bought the game and was a little worried about the installation procedure, as there were tons of negative ratings for this item. There is nothing wrong with the installation procedure, some people are just very impatient. Just don't expect to pop the game in and play right away.

I have been and avid Sims player, so have been following the press surrounding this game for a long time. I will ignore all the DRM and limited reinstall issues (although I am not happy with them) and just review the game.
Overall the gameplay wasn't as much fun as I had hoped. I love the creature stage and find myself playing it over and over. The rest of the game is not nearly as exciting as I has hoped. Once you have played the tribal stage a few times, it gets very dull. Either play simon says with the instruments or wipe everyone out. Civilization is a little more exciting, but you can only play it a few ways before it gets boring too. Space is so vast and seems to have so much potential, but its hard to focus on what you want to do (exploration, building colonies, etc), when you just get attacked all the time. You have to abandon what you are doing and go rescue everyone and then it takes forever to get back to where you were when that happened. The game isn't as open ended as I was hoping for either. With the sims, you can come up with all sorts of challenges or different ways to play the game and you can focus on how you want to play it.
I have already gone back to the Sims Apartment Life. I will probably pick the game up again and play more in creature stage, but I don't know if I will play the rest of it anytime soon.
Spore a disappointment October 6, 2008

I was very disappointed in this game. It is supposed to run on Windows Vista and I have not been able to get it to run. I have searched on the web and found no solution.
