Very useful for recording GPS data in ASCII format April 2, 2006 Carlos Ramos (Monterrey, Mexico) I've used this software since version 1998, almost in all North and South America Countries, and it has been very useful to me. I use it connected to my Magellan GPS and my laptop while driving. Using the Monitor and Record funtionality, I get all NMEA data from the GPS in TXT format from where I can extract all kinds of information I need. This feature is not found in other similar software products.
Excellent Planner March 27, 2006 U.S. RVer I have used this product for about eight years, and have never had a problem with it. I plan long trips with it for our RV club, and it does beautifully. It also allows calculation of costs. The newest version even lets you track reservations. I have not tried to link it to my GPS, nor would I bother. I study the maps, and know where I'm going, so the GPS mostly shows me where I am and how fast I'm going. Nice, but not essential. Otherwise the TripMaker program works very well as far as I am concerned, so I don't understand the hostile evaluations. Each program does what it does, and this one suits me just fine.
Rand McNally should have stood in bed. . . January 26, 2005 Helvetiaphile (Arlington, VA) 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
I don't think a thorough review of this is in order, because YOU ARE NOT GOING TO BUY IT. While it has some cute features, the main problem is that it DOESN'T KNOW ANY ADDRESSES of anyone I've tried to find. My own house has been here 50 years and the address is not in the program. '1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington, DC' is not there (though 'White House' is). None of my friends' addresses are there. It seldom can even find an intersection ('no match found'). On the other hand, Microsoft Streets & Trips has 90% of the addresses I've asked it to find. Too bad, because the GPS interface on R-M is good and it's exceedingly primitive on Streets & Trips.
What program are these people using? December 17, 2004 Overstreet (Kansas City, MO) 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
I am surprised to see the many negative comments on this product. The only issue I have had with it is that my GPS initially did not work properly. This was due to Windows XP recognizing it as a serial pointing device and had nothing to do with the software. I had the same issue with streets and trips. Once I got that ironed out, it has worked perfectly for me. I used it recently to plan a cross country trip and it worked fine. I was able to get back on track a couple of times when I took a wrong turn simply by using the GPS for reference. I see that some complained that you have to be online to use the program but this is not true. You DO need to be online to get current updates on road construction, but this should be done before leaving home where you have internet access anyway, not on the road. I think that perhaps people are expecting a lot from a program that costs less than 50 bucks. Take the tutorials included with the program, plan your trip at home or in the hotel, not on the road and use a little common sense and it will work fine for you. My only complaint would be that there is no option to update the street-level city maps via the internet.
Dont Even waste your time with this Software August 23, 2004 Wally Spark (Buffalo, NY) 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
Where do I start.. Hmm the fact that this program is the biggest waste of $45 i have ever spent on something in a long time. I purchased this program before heading out on a cross-country road trip this summer, in hopes of using it as a supplemental program for finding points of interest, dining, and lodging. Well, the Rand McNally CD's made good coasters at the hotels we found using another program.. The GPS interface would not even work no matter what, and I currently own a new Garmin Vista Unit, so using this program for on the spot navigation was out of the question. Searching for local attractions to familiarize myself with the program only turned up places that have been closed for the past ten years, or a very limited listing. Worst of all, the store will not take this prog back because it has been opened, yada yada yada. So, now I am stuck with a $45 P.O.S. I would have more fun wasting the $45 in the slots in Vegas. DO NOT BUY THIS PROGRAM ! DO NOT BUY THIS PROGRAM ! .
