Amazon.com Review Mosby's is one of the biggest names in American medical reference. For 75 years flu victims in Fresno, syphilitics in Seattle, plague carriers in Peoria, and hypochondriacs in Hackensack have been checking its authoritative pages for the right terms, drugs, and treatments to go with their conditions. And now it's been made even easier to scope out your symptoms with the one-disc Mosby's Medical Encyclopedia CD-ROM, containing just about all there is to know in the field of contemporary medical expertise. The format is admirably clear. A column on the left of the screen indicates the various available sources on the disc. Click on each to access the subsection you want. Most useful is perhaps the encyclopedia itself, which gives plain, lucid, informative definitions of some 20,000 medically related terms. Below the encyclopedia is a very handy drug guide, affording the scientific background and uses of multifarious pills, medicines, and remedies, from ibuprofen to Intaferon, temazepam to Tixylix. Equally interesting is the human atlas, which diagrammatically maps nervous, lymphatic, muscular, and digestive systems, amongst others. The on-disc Internet guide, which links you to pertinent Web sites and apposite net addresses, is pretty cool too. In fact, there's so much information here it might prove slightly overwhelming for the layman, and in some ways the CD-ROM is aimed as much at professional users as the needy family or inquisitive individual. But for those willing to swallow the odd technical term, it's still pretty hard to think of a better single-disc medical dictionary on the CD-ROM market. --Sean Thomas

One of the best medical references around! October 5, 2004 dr.bomb (Pittsburgh, PA) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
For a title published by SoftKey (now Br0derbund) words fail to describe how well designed the interface is as well as how much information is packed on this disc. This is a reference title which has so much going for it and deserves much more recognition than it received. Despite its age (the actual software is circa 1997) it is remarkably crisp and loaded with many ways to keep track of what you browse within it. From bookmarking functions which allow you to create custom bookmark files allows you to build custom lists of research terminology right on down to allowing full access to all the graphics and text of this product for research papers or, for that matter, web design projects. There is even a built-in Journal function which allows you to take and save notes without using external software. Now how many reference titles boast such innovative ways of allowing you to do so much within the software itself without switching outside of its environment? It's your one-stop-shop for research! As for the medical information, it is top notch. Now only do you get practical laymans advice to help one cope with a range of ailments and other health-related issues one can go deep-down into actual details of anatomical and biological functions. There are also some great practical health advice articles for those who are unsure about how to live a healthier life. Hyperlinks abound and, alas, a lot of them are repeated from one section to another. A minor quibble. The explanations are quite detailed from basic biological processes right on up to full articles explaining diseases. Definitely a database of information which will satisfy both novices and experts alike. I haven't explored its weblinks yet but I am thoroughly impressed with this disc so far. Since it's a CD-ROM it has the required A/V material to round off a superb and vastly underrated title. As for the price it is a STEAL! I'm sure you can find better products but not one as good as this for such a bargain basement price. --dr.bomb Ph.D. in AVRT...for life...FOREVER!

Mosby's Medical Encyclopedia is the best by far! It has really helped me understand the anatomy of the human body. It is real simple and complex to read. I am a student at Methodist Hospital School of Nursing; it is a brillant piece of craftmanship.
