Compare Kaspersky Products | Virus detection and notification. | Quarantine potentially infected objects. | Using the Internet safely and securely Secure surfing. The solution analyses web pages and blocks potentially malicious web-based content. It also blocks pop ups and ads, which are not simply irritating: virus writers often use ads to install Trojans that steal your confidential data or give the Trojan's owner access to your computer. Privacy Control. Many malicious programs attempt to locate and harvest user IDs and passwords for online bank accounts, auctions, shops, email, payment systems, chat rooms, online games and etc from Windows Protected Storage. Kaspersky Internet Security monitors and blocks all attempts to collect and forward your confidential data from this storage area. Protection from phishing. Kaspersky Internet Security filters out phishing emails and protects you from accessing websites run by phishers who use social engineering to fool you into sharing your banking or online payment information. Parental Control. Parents can protect their children from online predators by creating blacklists of individual websites, as well as identifying categories of forbidden content such as drugs, pornography and so on. These lists can be customized by user type for children, teens or adults. In addition, parents can manage their children's Internet experience by limiting the amount of time they spend online. Anti-virus protection and more Protection from all of today's Internet threats. Kaspersky Lab combines three protection technologies to protect you against viruses, Trojans, worms, keyloggers, rootkits and other threats. This means that you are safe from spyware, adware, pornware, crimeware and anything else today's cyber criminals invent. Firewall. The inbuilt personal firewall provides new generation protection from intrusions and data leaks. The default settings for popular applications control network and Internet activity using the IDS/IPS to prevent hackers from taking over your computer or stealing your data. Stealth mode allows you to surf safely and invisibly, protecting you from becoming a target for hacker attacks. Anti-spam protection. The anti-spam module uses a combination of filtration methods to protect you from spam targeting you personally: white and black lists of senders and content, self-modifying algorithms for text analysis, graphical spam analysis and more. Self-protection. Today virus writers begin their attack on your computer by disabling anti-virus protection. Kaspersky Internet Security is designed to block all attempts to disable protection, leaving you to work and play securely. Restoring your data and your system Rollback of malicious changes. Kaspersky Internet Security monitors system and application behavior for suspicious behavior. Once malicious behavior is detected, the process is blocked and any changes caused by malicious code are rolled back. Your system is clean and your original data is intact. Rescue disk. Creating a rescue disk is quick and easy using the built in wizard in Kaspersky Internet Security. If your computer is ever attacked by a virus, you can restore and disinfect your system right away by yourself using the rescue disk you created even if the operating system has been damaged.

Powerful yet unforgiving to an almost ridiculous level May 9, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The good: This is probably the most secure antivirus and firewall I have used but don't take my word for it, do a search for av-comparatives and you'll see it ranked among the highest in its class.
The bad: Its aggressiveness is severely marred by the lack of control it gives you. It "protects" you from so many potentially harmful sites, links, and dangerous executables that you'll probably be unable to do anything on your computer. Let me explain.
Kaspersky's installation is straightforward enough until they get to a point where they ask you if you want default protection settings or a more advanced training mode where you literally train the firewall what to do. Being a relatively computer savvy user, I elected the latter. Bad mistake. I now find myself having to approve almost every executable file I run. You'd think I was running Windows Vista. The worst part is it doesn't provide the information we need to make an informed decision. Even listing the directory the file is in or its properties would help us make a decision but instead we're frequently doing a search for this file in our hard drive "just to be safe" then looking it up online and so on.
Now let's get to web surfing. When it's working, there's only a slight reduction in speed. However, the program frequently brings everything to a screeching halt and stops pages from loading. Why, I don't know and their support isn't helpful either. They have a huge list of "blacklisted" sites that include commercial tracking sites and advertising related sites. This can cause havoc if you're in a shopping portal that redirects you to other websites. Plus, I'd notice Kaspersky blocking a website I was trying to visit but at the same time opening 20-30 different port numbers. Why was this happening? Again, their support was of no help. Many competitors have ways to bypass and go directly to a website link such as holding down the shift key before clicking the link or something to that effect. Not Kaspersky. If they block it, you're out of luck unless you shut down their protection completely. That makes you feel secure.
To top it off, I'm frequently annoyed by the interference it causes with online media players, particularly flash media, but other streaming video is affected. I tried resetting everything to default and disabling some of the more aggressive options like anti-banner and anti-popups but it still blocks stuff I know is safe. That, in a nutshell, is Kaspersky's achilles heel. In its zeal to be the most powerful protection against online threats, it left no control to you, the user. I mentioned this to their support staff and they respond as if the thought never crossed their mind.
Personally, I won't be renewing my subscription. Watching it detect and prompt me for everything was impressive at first. Now it's just annoying and time consuming.
KIS 6 good, KIS 7 BAD! May 9, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Well, I purchased and used KIS 6 for a year and time was ready to renew. I thought, "great, I like KIS 6, let's do it!" Well, I followed all of Kaspersky's instructions on removing KIS 6 and installing 7 (eventually did it three x). Seemed to go well at first but boy did my XP SP2 1.6 GHZ , 1G RAM, 120 GB slowwwwww down my IE and Firefox engines. I contacted K customer support via email ticket with no response (actually got one ONE WEEK later!), so I tried direct email and started an email exchange which meant waiting an hour+ for a return email. I sent a SysInfo packet and he told me to remove a tiny register remnant of Norton which came with my computer with the Norton tool AND that my Spywareblaster and Windows Defender were incompatable with KIS 7 despite no problems for a year with KIS 6. Yeah, right! I did what he said anyway and removed all. No difference. I finally called and waited 20 min but got a nice tech who was helpful and compassionate and he told me to uncheck a filter setting labeled "Kaspersky" in my windows security which helped the IE and firefox speeds but still I had a MUCH slower computer than before and also noticed that I could not watch and of my NETFLIX Instant Watch films (they said my connection was too slow, despite my speed check of my DSL connection saying its fast). So in the end I had to kiss KIS goodbye and adopted AVAST! (top rated on avcomparables and now with antispyware, too!) and reloaded my Defender, Spybot, and Spywareblaster and I am clean and happy!
Very pleased May 9, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've been running the software on mmy laptop since 04/19/08 without any problems. I noticed right away that Windows (XP Home) loads much faster than before when I was using Norton. It seems there was a good amount of space freed up on my hard drive as well when I installed it...
Works great May 5, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We've used various versions of Norton products for many years. We tried Zone Alarm a few years ago. Norton has caused problems on both our XP and Vista machines. The most recent was when it would not let us renew our subscription, but kept taking us to the upgrade site. After reading many reviews, we decided to try Kaspersky on the XP and Vista machines. We've had it on for several weeks now and it is working great. The machines boot up faster and there does not seem to be any issues while we are working on the machines. We don't even notice that it is running even with the frequent database updates. Would definitely recommend this product.
didn't meed expectations... April 29, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
For whatever reason, this software slowed down my computer to a crawl (took about 45 min for the computer to boot), and I have a dual processor... From the other reviews, it should have worked great.
I returned it and got Norton's Internet security (which I had before), and all now works well. Maybe there's something in Norton's software that causes the dramatic slowdown with other similar programs...
