Product Description Don't trust your antivirus protection to just anyone. Spyware Doctor with AntiVirus has consistently been awarded Editors' Choice, by leading PC magazines and testing laboratories around the world, including United States, United Kingdom, Sweden, Germany and Australia. Did you know that many programs tested against Spyware Doctor detected only a small fraction of Spyware and only completely removed an even smaller amount? Also most of them were unable to effectively block Spyware in real time from being installed on users PC in the first place. Spyware Doctor's advanced OnGuard technology only alerts you on a true Spyware and Virus detection. You should not be interrupted by cryptic questions every time you install software, add a site to your favorites or change your PC settings. Such messages can be confusing and may result in undesirable outcomes such as program errors, lost favorites or even spyware and viruses being allowed to install on the system.
Enhanced rootkit detection and removal techniques reduce the number of system reboots required Works silently in the background with low CPU usage Email Guard - protection against, and instantly removes, spyware and viruses being sent or received via e-mails. Follow up slowdown issues July 30, 2008 John Applegate (Seattle, WA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I Last posted that Mcafee was actually the problem and I was correct. I could not write two reviews, my other post is on the spyware doctor without anti-virus but the same issue applies. Mcafee and other total security programs want to make other competing software incompatible. On Mcafee's very site it lists spyware doctor and others as imcompatible. Funny how they let all sorts of other programs operate. So the real problems lie in the main security programs. This would not be an issue if they were able to stop all the intruders, but in my case Mcafee did not and spyware doctor did. Since I experienced the mcafee(major security program) caused slowdown. All I did was disable the spyware doctor immunization and on guard protection and after re-booting my computer is flying. Faster than before I scanned and fixed the major items with spyware doctor. It also found tons of other stuff that Mcafee did not. Bottom line is that you will have to or I recommend turning off but not uninstalling spyware doctor and running the scan(s) every week or so just in case mcafee or whatever else your using didn't catch something. I am not a computer specialist so please do the research needed to correct your specific issue. However, my experience is that without spyware doctor or something of equal capabilites we would not have been able to get rid of the virus/spyware/trojan whatever it was. I would keep spyware doctor as a backup for sure, if something comes on that takes over your browser then it got passed your main security program. Good luck.
Excellent Product April 30, 2008 Simin Husain 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I can safely say that this was an excellent purchase. I was hit with a bad case of spyware and adware about 3-4 days before I bought this product. I knew that there was something wrong because my computer was facing all sorts of problems such as extremely slow run time, dysfunctional internet, hundreds of banner ads (many of which were inappropriate), among others. I was only using Windows Defender at the time, and even though there was an obvious problem in my system's performance, it said that my computer was running fine, so I decided to open up the free subscription of Norton Antivirus that had come with my computer. It did a good job of taking care of the viruses that my computer had been assaulted with, but there were clearly more problems and even Norton said everything was running fine when it clearly wasn't. So my next step was to search Google for a good antispyware product, which was very hard due to all of the problems as well as my own insecurity at the time (A lot of the spyware popups were for phony antispyware products). Spyware Doctor by PC Tools came up and I downloaded the trial, which successfully rooted out all of the spyware that my computer had (which was much more than what Norton had shown). It would not, however, remove the software without purchase, so I went to Amazon to look at the product reviews, which were overwhelmingly negative. I looked for a program with good reviews instead, and found it in Sunbelt Counterspy. I downloaded the trial, which was a full trial and would remove any spyware found. I was appalled at Counterspy's lack of performance. It WOULD NOT download any updates (even when it said that it was in the process of downloading them), and found 0 problems with my computer (even though the other software had found many). I opted for Spyware Doctor and Antivirus, which I bought the download to online. At first, it severely slowed down my computer and I was feeling as though I had made a terrible mistake, but after all of the updates were downloaded and I had rebooted my computer a couple of times, the Spyware Doctor removed all of the viruses, spyware, adware, etc. and my computer (which is two years old) is running better than ever in terms of internet and general functionality, and I have not run into any problems since. I even deleted all of the other computer protection software that I had downloaded. It was a grueling struggle, but I think that this is one of the most effective products that I have ever purchased. I literally have 100 percent peace of mind while i'm on the computer now, a feeling that I have never felt before for anything.
"doctor" is a quack April 8, 2008 S. white (michigan) 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
Only buy this product if you like spending a lot of time sitting in front of your screen while your PC does virtually nothing. The company is hard to contact and very unresponsive. Beware of their "automatic renewal billing".
NOT A HAPPY CAMPER April 2, 2008 Bruce Harwood (Maryland, USA) 1 out of 5 found this review helpful
I bought two Spyware Doctor Programs. Both were sealed when I received them. The first worked fine. The second said that it had already been installed on three computers. RIP OFF. BH

Excellent. No problems whatsoever since using the product in December 2007. I highly recommend it without reservation. One can depend on it, trust me.
