very complex DVD July 27, 2008 M. ANNE (california) I received this DVD last week and have spent probably 50 hours on it so far. I am NOT an artist although I have been a photographer for many years, so perhaps I am a photographic artist. I am beginning to work on "painterly" techniques in Photoshop and bought the Painter X program as it isa much more versatile program for this effort. Took me about a week to figure out that I need lots of help. Upon reading reviews, I decided to try Jeremy Sutton's DVD as it was highly recommended to me. The DVD is high quality, and Jeremy covers a lot; perhaps too much for me. There are a series of lessons; however, the lessons move on a bit faster than I can follow. It is very frustrating to have to put everything on hold while I try to replicate his moves. Jeremy is always making some kind of computer stroke which moves him on and I can't follow. I am pretty famililar with Photoshop so some of the keystrokes work well for me, thank goodness. I actually bought this for my husband as he is an artist but not too computer literate. He will NOT be looking at this; I gave him the Threinen-Pendarvis Photoshop and Painter Artist Tablet book instead. I will return to this review after a month of studying and working on this DVD. At this time, I would not recommend this DVD if you are not familiar with a lot of artistic concepts as well as quite familiar with Photoshop. Watch for updated review next month,
Painter X Is Great February 27, 2008 Robert Epstein 2 out of 7 found this review helpful
I bought this newest version of Painter for Mac for my Dad who is 88 and an artist. He has been doing computer art with Appleworks and an older version of Painter, and he said that some of the new technology and the brushes are really amazing. Based on his response I would recommend upgrading or buying this version.
