    Enhance and Preserve Your Music
In addition to letting you burn up to 50 hours of music on DVDs, Creator 9 lets you automatically add title, artist and genre tags to audio tracks -- even if your music has been captured from LP, tape, or Internet radio. Converting your music from LPs and tapes into MP3 or WMA format takes three easy steps, and you can even erase those annoying "pops" that old analog recordings are (in)famous for. By giving you the tools to adjust the volume, fade-in/fade-out, and stereo pan from any point in a track, Creator 9 gives you what it takes to make great, personalized audio compilations from just about any music source you can access.

Other features include the ability to create unique sound collages with up to eight layers of audio, or automatically burn hundreds of songs across multiple CDs. Roxio has added new music features to Creator 9. Unlike the previous generation, this version can automatically create perfect mixes from your PC music library. It is also equipped with new audio capture functions, including a desktop capture widget that helps capture streaming Internet radio and music instantaneously, a pre-roll feature that captures any audio playing on your PC without missing a beat, and a mute-all system sound feature so you can capture only the sounds you want without annoying dings from IM or new email notifications.

    Edit and Manage Digital Photos
Impress friends and family with gifts, cards, and more, all loaded with personalized features, such as a snapshot from a family vacation or a picture of your child's smiling face on a personalized email-ready birthday invitation. Create a gift calendar with travel photos for your favorite traveling companions, or produce cards from dozens of professionally designed templates for almost any occasion. You can even use Photo Assistants to make impressive panoramas and photo collages with easy-to-set layers, edge fading, and transparency effects. With Roxio, photo editing is simple and easy. Use Creator 9 to crop, rotate, correct brightness and remove red-eye with just one click.

    Capture and Manipulate Digital Video
With the newest version of Roxio Easy Media Creator you can capture analog or digital video effortlessly with auto-stop for unattended capture and more extensive capture card support. You can snag HD video from the latest HDV camcorders, and preview and keep only the desired scenes with SmartScan and auto-scene detection. And with Plug and Burn, Creator 9 automatically records all the content off your video camera or VHS tape, straight to DVD -- video capture just doesn't get much easier.

Edit your home movies and add touches that make them unique. View larger.
Instant Hollywood effects from CineMagic is one of the most impressive video upgrades for the Creator 9. With this feature you can easily filter and select those perfect scenes that must be in your movie. Personalize your movie with new, professionally designed themes that will fit almost any occasion. And you can even create a feature-film look with high-quality intros that will dazzle audiences. If TiVo is your thing, not only does Roxio let you burn your TiVo-recorded shows directly to DVD, you can also remove commercials and unwanted video segments for seamless entertainment. Another new function -- Video Doctor -- auto-corrects video color, contrast and brightness, and allows you to make manual adjustments to improve video recorded under poor conditions.

Roxio allows you to take control of your production with advanced 32-track timeline tools and the creative freedom to edit virtually everything. And you can even add professional transitions, effects, titles, navigation menus, and Dolby Digital Sound to regular or widescreen (16:9) productions.

    Burn, Backup and Copy
There's nothing more upsetting that losing all that precious digital data stored on your PC. With Creator 9 you can perform full, partial or incremental backups on demand, or schedule them to be done automatically while you're away. Done effectively, a PC backup can recover almost all of your data after a system crash or drive failure, and Roxio even helps restore the files to their original location. Burning with Roxio is fast, and with the newest version of Easy Media Creator you can save up to 50 GB of data on a single Blu-ray disc. Burn audio and data discs, mixed mode, and enhanced CDs, or create bootable discs to recover your system -- the possibilities are virtually endless.

You can also use Creator 9 to copy your movies to iPod, PSP, mobile phone or other portable video players. Plus, you can easily copy video CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray discs, make high-quality copies of your DVD movies, copy to double layer discs, convert DivX and WMV files into standard DVDs, and more. And once you have finished burning a disc, you can put your final stamp of individuality on the physical disc with custom-designed labels. Creator 9 can print labels directly onto the disc with supported LightScribe and Labelflash drives and media, or you can create personalized disc labels, case inserts and booklets.

1 out of 5 stars NO, NO, NO! Put your money elsewhere!   September 9, 2007

This is a long review, but it is worth reading to save your money and your sanity.

If you search by title in Amazon, you get 3 separate listings for the same software package... perhaps one is an updated version. But I bought this in May 2007 and updated to the most current version online. The editing part is fine: bunches of transitions, many of which I'll never use, but it's nice to have them. As a suite, there are multiple functions in the software: video, audio, photo, etc. One drawback is there is no easy way to go from one to the other. Use photo to download still photos intended for a slideshow, then select video to start on your masterpiece DVD, and it appears that the program closes itself, then restarts in the video mode.

Once your video is edited, you cannot burn it to DVD. The Roxio customer service website tells you this, and recommends you burn it to a file first, then copy the file to your DVD... again another change of function (see above). You have to expect the rendering and copying to be a slow process, but when you have waited 45 minutes or longer and then receive a message that there was an error, unable to burn to disk, what words come to mind?

You can select low, standard, and high quality for burning your DVD, and there is one called "fit to disk", which will automatically select the best quality to fit the capacity of your blank DVD. Nice, except my video was 90 minutes, so it was in between low and standard. And it took about a dozen disks to finally get one that would play in my DVD player. Some would not play at all, others would play for a while and then stutter, pixelate, or freeze. In my computer's DVD drive it played fine, but I can't distribute 20 copies and tell everybody to play it only on their computer. And remember, each render and burn/copy takes a couple of hours.

Since my DVD burner could handle dual layer DVDs, I bought a stack of dual layer blanks to get the highest quality. Did that do the trick? No. In fairness, it was a matter of the HP burner not recognizing Nexxtech disks. So I ordered HP dual layer disks to use in the HP burner (can't find them locally). Eventually I had a high quality image on a dual layer DVD. It played on my DVD player. At least, side one did. (OK, technically it is layer 0 and layer 1, but since I was raised on records instead of CDs, for me it is side 1 and side 2.) No matter how many versions of re-editing or re-rendering or re-burning I tried (remember the time frame), once the player got to the end of side 1, it froze. And it froze to the point that I had to turn off my player and re-start it, just to eject the disk.

    Roxio customer support: sucks.
They have an automated "Ask Roxie" system which takes you through a sequence of topics to narrow down your question to one of their pre-selected FAQs. And for me it never got to the questions I had. For the burning problem, it was nothing further than the "burn to file, copy to disk" that I already knew. My other question was, when burning to a dual layer DVD, can you manually select the break point? (the point at which it shifts from side 1 to side 2. You have seen it when you were watching a movie and the image froze for a second, then continued.)My video was my daughter's choral concert, so I wanted to shift in between songs.
The answer is that there is no way to designate the break point. So I could have either low quality video or half a high quality video.

    NOW THE BEST PART:
Remember I bought this in May. After using it for a few days or a week, I started to get an error message when I tried to open the program: "trial version of this product has expired". That's it. No other option. No way to start the program. Ask Roxie was useless, again, but there was a user-support forum with a solution. Completely remove the program and re-load it. It is a long process, but it worked...for a few days. Then I got the same "trial version" error again. I wondered if I had paid over $100 for a trial version. But the literature said if I had a trial version it would say so during installation. I did not have that message. So uninstall and reinstall. (tick, tick, tick).
This happened 4 or 5 times, so I tried the on-line chat support.
After 4 chats with different support people, I got someone to say he would escalate my problem to the next level, and someone would get back with me by email. A couple of days later I got an email with a link to a solution. It was a simple patch download. Why, why, why, couldn't they put that link in their Ask Roxio or user support or on-line chat areas? Or in the software to begin with?

Regardless, I wanted the high quality and a complete concert, so I chucked Roxio and bought Pinnacle Studio Ultimate. The cost was only a little higher than Roxio, and IT WORKS! Can you manually designate the break point with Pinnacle? No. But Pinnacle is written so that it will not divide a chapter over the break point. All I had to do was designate my chapters (one for each song anyway). As the disk was being burned, the program detected when the next song would not fit on side 1, and it switched to side 2 to continue. Finally, success!

It took me from May to August to finally complete this project, mostly because of the inadequacy of Roxio Media Creator and their inferior customer support. I went through 25 single disks, and 10 dual layer disks before I had my final disk to duplicate. Save yourself a lot of frustration, mental anguish, and money.

    My recommendation is:
RUN AWAY! DO NOT BUY THIS ROXIO PRODUCT! BUY PINNACLE STUDIO INSTEAD!

I purchased the software three days ago and I am still not able to burn a DVD because of an error message. The online robotic support is of no use and
there is no way to speak to a live person. I am very dissapointed.

5 out of 5 stars surprisingly pleasant software suite   December 26, 2006

This suite, in my opinion, is what software should be. It was easy to install, and is well integrated with the operating system, but is not obtrusive. This media suite contains an armful of handy tools, plus the bread-and-butter applications like DVD-authoring, disc burning, and media playing. The DVD-authoring application (MyDVD 8, which I've used a lot) is somewhat slow, but it burns DVDs just fine.

The best part of this entire software suite? It didn't mess with my file associations AT ALL! That's right, this piece of software will not commandeer your system (at least, it didn't force a hostile takeover of mine). I get the best of both worlds: all these useful tools, but only when I want them.
