    Standards-based Web Sites
Expression Web makes it easy to create CSS-based, XHTML 1.0 Transitional-conforming Web sites by default and work better across browsers, simplifying deployment and maintenance. Configure flexible schema settings to support all combinations of HTML, XHTML, Strict, Transitional, Frameset and CSS 1.0, 2.0, and 2.1 plus browser-specific schemas. Then validate your site with compatibility and accessibility reporting and against Section 508 and W3C Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).

With Expression Web you can also design customized views of industry-standard XML data using powerful drag-and-drop tools, and see how your data will look within your CSS site design. What's more, designers get the flexibility to represent XML data any way they choose. Present data using XSLT, even editing views on live XML data. Fine-tune raw data presented on a page with tools to sort, filter, and apply condition formatting. You can even retrieve and present XML data from live RSS feeds on your site, styled to match your own site's look and feel.

    Sophisticated CSS-based Layout and Formatting
Use Expression Web to generate elegant, modern CSS layouts with state-of-the-art surface design tools. You can directly manipulate positioning, sizing, margins and padding; a sophisticated CSS rendering engine inside gives you the confidence to make design decisions on the fly. Try out CSS styles on the page with drag-and-drop style management, and migrate them to a central repository. Meanwhile, typing aids and IntelliSense in the Code View make your process efficient and fast.

Create, edit, and deploy Web pages with deep support for the newly released ASP.NET 2.0 standard. Capture the power of ASP.NET with easy drag-and-drop controls, and maintain the correct look of your site with the use of server-rendered ASP.NET Master Pages to speed up the design process and allow easy site-wide changes. Access ASP.NET controls and their associated properties with the same power as Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, but rendered within the design surface of Expression Web. You can also preview ASP.NET pages locally, without the need for a full Web server.

    Rich Data Presentation
Expression Web makes it possible to build and format views of industry-standard XML data using drag-and drop tools for quick visualization. An XPath Expression Builder allows you to create complex queries, and XSL Transform (XSLT) support gives you the flexibility to present data any way you want. Plus, XML data can be retrieved and presented via live RSS feeds that match your site's formatting.

Designers get the flexibility to represent XML data any way they choose. Present data using XSLT, even editing views on live XML data. Fine-tune raw data presented on a page with tools to sort, filter, and apply condition formatting. Retrieve and present XML data from live RSS feeds on your site, styled to match your own site's look and feel.

    Powerful Server Technology
Harness the power of ASP.NET 2.0 to transform your sites into dynamic, interactive Web applications. Inserting and configuring ASP.NET controls is a snap with the controls toolbox, properties grid, and on-control "action menus." Meanwhile, ASP.NET Master Pages make site-wide changes quick and easy. And with the ASP.NET Development Server, you can make design decisions with full reference to page data.

    Upgrade Version
This version of Expression Web is made for license holders of any version of Microsoft FrontPage.

    2 out of 5 stars Just don't get it   April 22, 2008
    Bruce Kullberg (unicomsvcs.com)
I purchase this after using Frontpage 2003 for what seems forever! I've gotten good use out of FP, and it has more than paid for itself. But I'm just not sure what to make of Expression Web. I installed it, tried out some of the learning tools, but it just didn't click. I currently use a program that costs me 1/3 the price and has all the features of Expression Web. I also continue to use FP for basic stuff, especially when I need straight HTML programming.

I've gone to MS website and read some of the tutorials, checked out their forum, etc. But it seems as if MS wants me to buy all these add-on's (like Adobe does) to get the program to do what it should already do. Personally, I think I wasted my money on this, and sorry I purchased it.

5 out of 5 stars Great Program!   March 20, 2008
    Valerie Fisher (Hannibal, OH)
When I first received Expression Web, I was nervous about using this program. I have only used Microsoft FrontPage in the past & my experience with web design is really very limited. It took me a few weeks to learn how to use Expression Web, but now I love it!! If you are just getting started I recommend purchasing Expression Web plain & simple and watching as many videos from the Expression Web web site as possible. Check out my web site I created at [...]. I did end up upgrading to Expression Studio & I like working with Expression Design.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome! For a 1.0 version product, this beats FrontPage!   February 16, 2008

I am very, very happy with Expression Web.
FrontPage is dead. And Expression Web must have been produced by a third party vendor. . .I can't believe Microsoft can publish something this good. It actually teaches how to develop and use CSS web pages.

Plus, it has asp and asp.net with database linking capabilities (which are just ahead in my learning curve).

Best of all, it came with training video produced by Total Training.
The training video is probably a fifty dollar value and really gets you up and running. You will never use FrontPage again.

After using Expression Web for several months, I uninstalled Dreamweaver which was just taking up hard disk space.

Expression Web is a version 1.0 product. I don't have any complaints about it and am still learning it. Recommendation: STRONG BUY

1 out of 5 stars Microsoft Expression Web   January 21, 2008

Another Microsoft Disappointment. After using this program exclusively for the past 8 or 9 months I've gone back to the previous version, Microsoft Front Page 2003.

I love the fact that Expression Web allows one to work on CSS within the program. The split screen is a real plus, allowing the user to view both the design view and code view at once.

Expression Web does not publish properly and never has...publishing errors are the norm.
Expression Web does not handle included pages properly, and this is a critical area for most Microsoft Front Page users; the user must use an add-on program to handle included pages now.
It is difficult, at best, to locate things that were used constantly in previous versions of Front Page.

Even after numerous updates, Expression Web still seems to be unstable, which is typical of Microsoft products in general. There are so many fixes to download for all Microsoft products one must wonder how they came to be available to the public in the first place.

4 out of 5 stars Powerful, If a Little Complicated   December 15, 2007

Having come from Front Page 2000, I was a bit overwhelmed at how complex this program can be if you don't have any other web authoring training (like me). But it came with a "Total Training" DVD that helped quite a bit. And after I found a website called "Expression Web Help," and went through their tutorials, I was really pleased with how flexible and powerful this program is. I can finally make professional looking websites instead of the old ones that scream "I made this with Front Page!"
