For the person who wants one operating system that is great for working from home, working on the road, and for entertainment, Windows Vista Ultimate is a no-compromise operating system that lets you have it all.

    Easier, Faster Access to Information
Windows Vista Ultimate features Windows Aero, a new interface that delivers higher levels of efficiency for any business user. This easy-to-use interface makes it a snap to navigate through the operating system and from application to application. Most importantly, Windows Aero helps you juggle multiple tasks at once by providing a three-dimensional, real-time, animated view of all your open applications and documents. And for those businesses that do work in other countries, Windows Vista Ultimate supports all worldwide interface languages.

    Breakthrough Windows Vista Experience
Designed to help you feel confident in your ability to view, find, and organize information and to control your computing experience, all editions of Windows Vista introduce a breakthrough user experience. The visual sophistication of Windows Vista helps streamline your computing experience by refining common window elements so you can better focus on the content on the screen rather than on how to access it. The desktop experience is more informative, intuitive, and helpful. And new tools bring better clarity to the information on your computer, so you can see what your files contain without opening them, find applications and files instantly, navigate efficiently among open windows, and use wizards and dialog boxes more confidently.

    Work From Home
Windows Vista Ultimate includes all of the features that make it easy to remotely connect to business networks. This means that when you're working from home, you'll have advanced networking capabilities, such as the ability to join a domain, support for Group Policy, and access to features such as Remote Desktop. Windows Vista Ultimate also includes Windows BitLocker Drive Encryption that provides improved levels of protection against theft for your important business data whether you are at home, on the road, or in the office.

    More Entertainment Options
Windows Vista Ultimate delivers all of the entertainment features available in Windows Vista Home Premium, and includes everything you need to enjoy the latest in digital photography, music, movies, analog TV, or even HDTV. Ultimate also has helpful tools such as Windows Photo Gallery and Windows Movie Maker to ensure that you have everything you need to collect, manage, and edit your digital content. It also includes Windows Media Center for turning your PC into an all-in-one home entertainment center.

    Versatile Operation
Windows Vista Ultimate truly lives up to its name by delivering all of the features both business and home users want and need. It is the ideal solution for both a small-business owner who wants a single PC that he or she can use at the office, on the road, and at home, and for someone who wants a home PC that will be used primarily for entertainment purposes but that can also be used for business purposes such as connecting to a corporate network.

2 out of 5 stars Is this supposed to be an improvement?   June 18, 2008

I have countless issues with Vista Ultimate-without Service Pack 1. My "Vista-certified" hardware is always having trouble functioning. Downloading new drivers has proved futile. I fix one problem, and then another shows up. I thought this was supposed to be an improvement over XP? What a downer... Get a Mac, they work far better.

They took away all the things you were used to and replaced it with slowness. Why???

5 out of 5 stars Great OS, only one compliant   May 27, 2008
    S. Stutzman (Louisville KY United States)
There are some quirks to Vista. It's not always very intuitive either. But then again all things have some learning curve to them. Generally I have been very happy with Vista. If I had to guess why there are so many problems with other users is they use Vista as an upgrade, not bothering to flattening/formatting their hard drives and beginning afresh. There are plenty of tips that can be found online to solve most problems otherwise and most of these tips are just familiarizing people with Vista.

The only real compliant I have about Vista Ultimate, and maybe all the Vistas, is that although you are listed as the administrator, you're a protected administrator without true full rights. I used Spybot SnD and it would not allow me to remove all the adaware because I was not a true administrator. Only after unlocking the full rights and logging on the true administrator could I remove them. YUCK and what a pain.

1 out of 5 stars went back to xp -- forget trying to do pro audio with vista!   April 19, 2008

    do not buy this.

fewer software/hardware companies really care enough to release working drivers for vista because they know its a flop.

i got this with a laptop, and i wish i had the option to take xp, but certain laptop manufacturers are in bed with microsoft.

dont be an annoying jerk and need to impress others with how much like a mac your pc looks. you want to use a computer because it works, not so you can pretend you are doing stuff and look like a moron who paid too much for their equipment... (like a big portion of mac users are!)

i went back to xp and didnt look back! dont be fooled by the nicer looking solitaire game and whatnot. believe me, its not worth it.

forget doing pro audio on vista, by the way. you will meet only frustration.

4 out of 5 stars Vista is Working Fine for Me   March 21, 2008

I have XP running on a bootcamp partition on my MacBook and it is doing just fine. I spend most of my working time in Word, hardly ever using any of the other programs in the Office suite. However, I use the Adobe products Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator a whole bunch. Other than that I play solitaire, watch videos and, of course, use both Explorer and Firefox when I go online. That's about it for me, software wise, and XP handles it all without fail, without crashing and without giving me any headaches.

And I will miss it when I upgrade to Vista, however my machine can handle the upgrade, so I'm giving it a try.

Okay, I like the look and feel of Vista, however it's not as snappy as XP or even System X. I like the AERO bit, quite snazzy and one of the reasons my machine runs a bit slower, I suspect, however I'm loath to turn it off as it's so cool.

Word works fine and that's to be expected. My Adobe software runs well too. The browsers, no problem. I did have to upload a printer driver, but that only took a few minutes and I was good to go.

I've read a lot of reviews by people who are having problems with Vista and I'm getting the SP1 upgrade any day and I'll instal it, but I'm not experiencing the problems others appear to be having. Maybe because it's because I only use four or five programs on my Machine. I don't use iTunes or Windows Media as I still listen to my CDs the old fashioned way and only then if I don't have the phonograph record.
