Nancy Drew: Danger by Design continues the popular award-winning interactive PC game series with Nancy Drew flying to Paris to investigate the strange and unexplained behavior of a top fashion designer. Sent by a nervous investor to check on Minette, a leading fashion designer whose recently strange behavior may delay her Spring Collection and potentially derail the fashion house, Nancy Drew must unlock the many inexplicable mysteries that include strange threats and unwelcome guests at Minette's place. But with unsettling rumors that date back to an unsolved, historic mystery, Nancy can easily get distracted from the task at hand.

As Nancy Drew, you must sort through a wide web of suspects to look for clues. You'll meet Minette, the famous couture designer who is acting strangely and wearing a mask for some unknown reason. She's your boss, so watch out, or else you'll blow your cover! Then there's Jing-Jing (JJ) Ling -- a perfect size 12 with a taste for mint chocolate chip cookies. It was JJ who was tricked into signing an exclusive fitting model contract for Minette, so a little revenge could go a long way to satisfy someone who deserves her just desserts. And don't forget the famous photographer, Dieter von Schwesterkrank. It's true that he once dated Minette, but the romance fizzled. And it's also true that he obsessively sear! ches for his great uncle's lost treasure. Is he trying to get revenge for his broken heart or does he know the secrets of the moulin?

Then there's Jean-Michel Traquenard, THE critical voice when it comes to fashion. A writer of nasty reviews for Glam Glam magazine, this author is unpopular and scorned as a "conceited Nichtsnutz" by some. Having the power to shape the fashion industry can corrupt and lead to some reckless behavior! Another suspect is Heather McKay, who endures the nightmare that is Minette to gain a foothold in the fashion industry. After all, the quickest way to the top is to steal trade secrets, dethrone the reigning queen, and appoint yourself as the successor.

Whether you're trying to understand what makes all these characters tick, or you're exploring the underground catacombs or abandoned metro stations for clues, you'll need to rely on their powers of observation and deductive reasoning to solve this international mystery. Can you succeed in helping Minette release her latest clothing line on time? Or will your sleuthing abroad meet an unfashionable end? Rated "E" for Everyone, Nancy Drew: Danger by Design is a exciting addition to the growing line of interactive Nancy Drew titles.

5 out of 5 stars First One and Still a Favorite   July 22, 2008

So far I have only tried two Nancy Drew games and Danger By Design was the best one that I played. It was really enjoyable. It was especially different since Nancy didn't have her cellphone with her and had to use regular phones in Paris with a calling card. I highly recommend this game to any Nancy Drew fan or for those just starting out with Nancy Drew games.

My children think that this is the best one of the Nancy Drew games yet.

4 out of 5 stars Not the best, but still fun   April 29, 2008

I gave this game 4 stars simply for the fact that it is in my favorite location: Paris, France. The setting is great, and the characters are interesting. The music is rather monotanous, but not bad. The puzzles I found fascinating and fun, not too hard but not too simple. If you are a die hard ND fan than I would definitely recommend buying this game. It is a good game, overall. One of my main 'beefs' with it was the ending--or lack thereof. It seemed rather juvenile and a little on the stupid side. I am sorry to be harsh, but that's the truth of it! :)

5 out of 5 stars Not the best ND but it's up there.   March 14, 2008

Hey, I'm 43 and I love ND games. This was a good one but not one of the best. Still, it was entertaining and the puzzles were pretty easy except for the total dark room. That requires sticky notes on your monitor. LOL

Still took me 2 days to get through.

I have every ND game, and out of all of them, I'd rate this on a scale from 1-10, about a 7-1/2.

I am a HUGE fan of the Nancy Drew game series and have played about 6 or 7 of them already. Danger by Design was one of my least favorites. Although the scenery is nice and it shows alot of Paris, there is little to do at all of the locations and the tasks seem to get repetitive. After talking to the characters a few times they had little to say and there was not alot of interaction with them. There were much much less puzzles and clues to gather as there are in other ND games. Most of the game time is spent doing silly tasks like baking cookies and fixing a copy machine. And when there was a real puzzle to do it was very difficult to solve and the solutions were not something someone would have logically come up with. The plot was choppy and there were two angles to the story that had absolutely nothing to do with one another. I finished the entire game in one afternoon and the ending was lame, no excitement at all. This might me a better game for a much younger group because the tasks are easy and there are no real scary parts as there are in many of the ND games. Overall I give this game a 3 because it still had some good aspects and I love the ND series. This one goes in with the category of Kapu Cave, not horrible, but not the best.
