Fun for kids August 17, 2008 E. West (TN) I had tried to get my 9yo son to learn typing from a program geared for adults. It was not enjoyable for him. He really enjoys this program and has learned so much. Even my 5yo daughter loves it. The games and exercises are very good. I read some comments about poor graphics before buying this. My children haven't said anything about this. I certainly don't think it's an issue. This was well worth the money. I wish I had purchased this sooner and not pushed the adult typing program on him.
Bored my sons to tears...and me too August 11, 2008 Vicki Hookham (Winchester, VA) I bought this because of the excellent reviews, but my 8-year-old and 6-year-old sons found it horrible. I thought they were just being whiny, so I ran the program myself. Turns out my sons weren't just complaining! The characters are undynamic to the point of uninteresting. So we also tried SpongeBob Typing a month later and found it much more engaging. SpongeBob Typing also did a better job of controlling the children's progress so they would be ready for the games and drills, and for moving to the next lesson. Typing Instructor moved them before they were ready -- perhaps attempting to compensate for the dull nature of the game with premature advancement. Ugh, look for my copy of Typing Instructor II on ebay!
Great for 8yr old / babysish for 10yr old August 10, 2008 A. Band (PA) My daughter is 8yr and she really took to this. My son is feels it is a little babyish for him. But overall I recommend it and it is getting the job done... They do 45 minutes each day in the morning for 3 weeks so far and are doing great wtih it.
Typing Instructor for kids August 4, 2008 Angela D. Davis (New Jersey) This product is not compatible with Vista, and trying to contact the company to get the appropriate patch is almost impossible....
Hate it...Hate it...Hate it!!! May 25, 2008 turtlnsite This is not a program that ran well on my computer. I could get the lessons to download. However the "reward games" part of it would not. Everytime you finished a lesson I would get an error code and then I could only go on to the next lesson. This is no reward for a child learning how to type. I called the company and they e-mailed me a link to get the updated version and I got the same thing with that one too. There is a link to download a "fix" to this problem. Instead of fixining the problem it messed up my computer! The Sponge Bob typing program is the next one I purchased and I must say it is much more "user friendly". The only drawback is that you need the disk everytime you play. But you will get better results in the end. I would advise against getting Typing Instructor for kids...either version. Sponge Bob is slightly more expensive but you know the saying: "you get what you pay for".
