A trial version of this came with my Dell laptop. It seemed to work so I bought a key. It worked for a while with the key but now it doesn't work at all. I will uninstall and do manual file backups.
Semantec does not have customer service September 21, 2007
Ghost hater
Semantec (Norton Ghost) has no customer service. Avoid this product or get stuck in the black hole of no support. Their 800# is a endless cycle of music and then cuts you off,only so you have to call back to revisit the same nightmare.

Could use microsoft approved hardware compatiblity listing, as an adapter or another PC is needed to connect and mirror to a new/replacement hard drive.

I wish that I had read the reviews here on Amazon before I bought this malware at my local office supply store. All I wanted to do was make a complete copy of my Windows XP system hard drive onto external media, nothing fancy. I made sure that my hardware setup had the capability to do this and then I installed Ghost 10.0. The user interface and included user guide was easy to use and understand. I began my first system back up, but before it was complete, an error message came up about an "...Internal application error: memory access violation..." I tried a second time and got the same error. I went to Symantec's online tech support and found my error code listed there. They suggest downloading an update to the software. I did this, and one of the 2 updates gave me an error message that the "update failed..." So far, I was only mildly disturbed by all of this, because I am used to hacking buggy Linux applications. But when I restarted my computer, and saw that my Windows startup configuration had changed - I just about exploded with anger! There is no reason for this program to change ANY of my system settings, and especially not my login. I don't care what their reasons are. I wanted a program to back my system up - not change it.
I wonder what else it did to my system? There is an online magazine review of this software that suggests that there may be something nefarious hidden in this software: Ghost 10.0 regularly and frequently updates a file called symlcrst.dll at odd and varying intervals. Symantec refuses to provide an explanation for this - saying that it is "proprietary" information. I hated to realize that I had just gotten ripped off, but I uninstalled everything and used the native Windows system restore to put my computer back the way it was. I will never buy anything from Norton again. Ever.
