DO NOT BUY THIS SOFTWARE!!!! September 20, 2005 Joe 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Even though my product came in packaging that said that it worked with Win2000 sp4, it does not. The sound does not work after the opening credits. I am very unhappy with this software distributor. They have conflicting information on their support FAQ that says that it won't work with Win2000 sp4, yet the box says otherwise.
Doesn't work with XP February 27, 2005 B. Pleva (Tenafly, NJ) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Encore should be ashamed for claiming it works with XP... It doesn't.
Does NOT Run on Windows 2000 September 29, 2004 S. Maliszewski 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Despite the packaging, this software (and unfortunately, many other toddler-level programs) does not run on Windows 2000 with SP4 installed. Encore states as much if you inquire, but no such caveat exists on the package or in any marketing materials. The result is no sound after the opening credits. Removing SP4 is a non-option in today's computing environment, so this software is effectively useless. I do not understand the design philosophy that targets toddle-level software to 9x systems. These are obsolete and far less stable platforms, especially with a 2 year old banging away on them. Even at this modest price point, 2000/XP compatable should now be the standard.
Don't buy this if you have Windows 2000! July 16, 2004 J. Ogle (Knoxville, TN USA) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
After much driver patching and updating, I managed to get all of the discs to install and play a little on Windows 2000, but the "Elmo's Preschool" and "Elmo Through the Looking Glass" discs will lock up our computer HARD (requiring a cold boot to fix) after 5-10 minutes of play. The "Sesame Street Preschool" disc hasn't locked up, but we can't hear any SOUND with it, so that sure doesn't make it playable either. My 33-month old son was very disappointed and keeps saying "Elmo's broken". :(
Buyer Be Very Wary June 25, 2004 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
The trusted leader in children's learning really blew it with this product. I bought SS Baby deluxe, SS Preschool and SS Toddler for my 2 and 4 year olds. My little girl was SO excited to play these games but Uh-oh. The small print says several of the disks DON'T WORK on Windows 2000 and they were developed for XP before the program was released so it is shaky on XP machines too. The bottom line - we can't run most of the CD's - some will install but not play. Some won't give the sound, some won't install. Very disappointing. Also Encore (who produces product) says on their web that they don't do refunds - you have to go back to the original store. Also they don't have an 800 toll-free number so you have to pay for support calls. NOT WHAT I EXPECTED FROM SESAME STREET. I WILL BE VERY WARY OF ALL THEIR PRODUCTS NOW. Amazon probably shouldn't sell this as compatible with 2000 and XP as it just doesn't work with many of those computers.
