No worse than Disney! December 30, 2005 Stephanie (Bermuda) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
These cd's are fine in terms of content. There is no more magic in them than there is in a Disney movie. Now to grade the cd's on their REAL content: the explorers cd is excellent. My five year old can play the games and proceed just fine. It is great for teaching about other cultures. As for the math - well I was ready to toss it out! There are no instructions for how to play the games. It takes a lot of experimentation with the mouse, arrow keys, enter key etc. to figure out which tools are needed to do the tasks. As for the reading - we haven't tried that one yet.
Fun way to learn March 2, 2005 Spiritlight (Denver, CO United States) 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
This program is a great way for kids to learn while they play. The treasure hunt aspect is something kids enjoy, and as for the reader's comments about it not being "Christian," perhaps it should be noted that Jump Start is not promoted as a "Christian" game. (Maybe Veggie Tales has something along those lines?) As for the "magic" aspects, there is magic in everyday life, if one knows where to look. Any game that encourages kids to look for life's magic is well worth it -- much better than the majority of today's video games emphasizing war and killing. From the beginning I have taught my son that peace is where we should put our focus, and for us, *all* is magic. Positive aspects, both in games and in life, are crucial...especially for kids. Jump Start supports that with its "Way to go!" attitude, upbeat style and encouragement. If you're looking for a game for your child to practice adding, subtracting, and other academic skills, buy this game. If you prefer something with a Christian slant, there are many sites on the Internet and at your local Christian bookstore that would have something more suited to your taste.
Satisfactory. January 20, 2005 M. G. Pollock (Redmond, WA USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
It's a decent product, although not as interesting or amazing as other learning-type software out there for this age group. The math and reading levels do not seem to be in sync with each other, but it's easy enough to go to the level that best fits your child. If you are an educated, progressive, and open-minded parent, the "magical" stuff won't bother you a bit.
Very "magical". December 29, 2004 Katie (TN) 7 out of 29 found this review helpful
I would not reccomend this product to anyone unless their children already know the subject matter. The "reading" cd-rom is nothing more than an "adventure" where the explorers go on a treasure hunt basically. The games that have to be played to move on, are not Teaching anything. It expects the child to already know how to do it! This was filled with "magic", "sorcery" and not the kind of "game" a Christian child should need to be playing. I was VERY dissapointed in this set, coming from a name like Jumpstart. I plan on returning it SOON!
this wasnt what i expected November 11, 2004 Robert F. West (Missouri USA) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
my daughter is in 2nd grade, and after completing several things she became bored and just says its too hard.. i was really disappointed in this one.. she did like the explorers part, but as far as the math and reading.. it just wasnt fun enought to want to LEARN on lol.. maybe when she's older I hope.. not sure......
