I love OmniPage ProX April 5, 2008 Virginia White (Fullerton, CA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have been waiting for years for version of OmniPage Pro for Mac that would work with my operating system (Tiger, then Leopard.) I recently purchased the most recent version and was delighted that it worked the way the older ones I had before I upgraded to system 10. I was worth the wait. The other program I had been using was most unsatisfactory. OmiPage is the best for OCR that I have used.
I would give it negative five stars if it were listed. January 21, 2008 Mark Twain (Phoenix, AZ USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
In my opinion this software is horrible. First it crashes an average of three times per job. Second, the version I received did not have all of the features listed in the advertisement or on the box, and many of the features are bug riddeled and unusable (for example it does not have the despeckle feature, and the table feature is unusable. It also will not recognize documents (well, less than 50% of the charaters) that it does not have the font installed for unlike the previous versions. This really limits what it will do. Even scanning a perfect laser printed document had more than 5% errors when I tried that as a test. Third, in my opinion there is no support!! When I tried to contact customer service they first explained that I needed to get tech support. Even to E-mail tech support costs $9.95 per email sent and you must provide a credit card first. Even though I paid for the advertised complete package what I got was identical to the SE version that came with my new scanner(for free). What a waste of money. Customer service says I have a promotional package and that is it. Each time they close out the complaint and I have to start over again. I have finally fired up my old computer to run my old software that runs much better. In my opinion I hope they bankrupt soon so someone can buy them up and straighten this mess out.
More like a Downgrade May 24, 2006 Mac Fan (Montgomery, AL USA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
If you have owned previous versions of OmniPage for the Mac, you will be very disappointed in this one. Previous features have been lost in this version, such as the ability to batch process a folder of tiffs. If you draw your own zone templates, it will not automatically batch process the file. It asks you if you would like to use this zone or another zone for every single page forcing you to hit a return. The number of scanners it will work with is very limited. Maybe on a PC its better, but we are going back to using an old version on a classic machine for now.
Running Tiger? As of Sept, 2005, Omnipage Ain't compatible! September 9, 2005 Mark F. Braun (Norridge, IL) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Talk about a major rip-off! Omnipage X isn't OS X Tiger compatible no matter WHAT you read on some free postings around the net. Our long-time use of this $500 retail program is sitting here, waiting for some plausible reason for these yahoos to patch it. We bought this package under two years ago; talk about a bad investment! They gave us our "one free call" to find this out.
It works fine in OS X for me. June 7, 2005 Buddy No 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Just wanted to clear up some misinformation. I installed Omnipage Pro X in OS X 10.4 (Tiger). I did not need to use "Classic" to install it, nor to do any scanning. My scanner is a Canon LiDE 35, which has an OS X TWAIN driver. So everything is fully OS X compatible.
