5 out of 5 stars Sehr Gut   January 17, 2007

This is a 4 DVD set. I had not studied German before purchasing this item. It is an excellent choice. This product breaks down the lessons into catagories, has a dictionary, grammar and pronunciation expolanations and actual audio of conversations. Words and phrases are actually prounounced in German and the user is given the chance to repeat it back using a standard mic for the computer. The software then gaudges how well the phrase was spoken.

The software also has various drills for each lesson so the user can reapeat, understand and respond appropriately. While the dictionary featuer is not as complete as one in book form, every word IS prounounced when selected.

There is an extensive grammar section explaining the intricate nature of the German language. I have not even gotton through the entire program yet, but This is a fabulous price for an excellent education.

I had never found a good learning software for languages but this is great. It is very friendly, very exciting, not boring, takes you through different drills while you are learning and gives you a lot of grammar aids. I am fascinated with this piece of art. I truly recommend this. I am getting the spanish for my hubby and I will continue with French, all by the same company.

This is a decent software program. It allows you to zero in on your particular needs and not have to wade through countless lessons that may not be applicable to you. In my case, I was using the software in order to travel in German-speaking countries. The emphasis on spoken language is good, especially for a difficult language like German to pronounce. It helped me a lot to hear and repeat German words until I could understand and say them.

5 out of 5 stars An Excellent Language Learning Software   August 5, 2005

I used the "learn to Speak" program for learning Spanish and it was excellent and my spanish really improved. Now, I'm using the same program for learning German. It is also excellent and I highly recommend it. I have purchased many programs from different companies for both Spanish and German. In my opinion, the "Learn to Speak" series by the Learning Company is superior to all of them, and the price is an unbelievable value.
The basics section really gives you a feel for the language and is a great start. The rest of the CDs are divided into well organized chapters/lessons. You can go in order or jump to a particular topic of interest. I have no trouble with the voice or audio. I also think this software makes learning the language as fun as it can be. (The only exception being the audio CDs from Michel Thomas...of which I cannot speak more highly. They truly are superb).
The bottom line, for the money you are paying, I think that Learn to Speak German is probably the best for home learning on your personal computer. Get motivated, sit down with a cup of coffee, and go for it.

4 out of 5 stars Amazon Correction   March 18, 2005

I have not tried the software yet, but just so that everyone knows, Amazon's listing is not completely correct. It says that Learn to Speak German 8.1 is a 5 CD set, but I just got my order and it only comes with 4 CDs. The company selling it (NothingButSoftware.com) says that the 4 CD version is slightly newer, but has all the same stuff in it. I'm not sure if that's true or not, but will give another review if I find anything else out about it.

Since I have to give a rating, I'm just going to rate it the same as the average right now.
