The nice thing about Resume Deluxe is that it lets you decide how much help you need with your job search and preparation process. If you simply want a program to help you align the bullet points on your resume or line up your education and career experience sections, Resume Deluxe will provide that service. If you're looking for more extensive help, such as a video to guide you through the interview process and to help you practice negotiating salary requirements, this application provides those services as well.

One feature we especially appreciated was the selection of resume templates--whether you're looking for a professional, no-nonsense format, or you prefer to add some pizzazz, Resume Deluxe has a good selection of templates from which to choose. Users also have the option to pick a resume template based on a specific career. However, this option seems to lack the precision one might expect--when we typed in "writer" as a career choice, the closest templates we could find were for such jobs as "Type-Rolling-Machine Operator" and "Inspector, Automatic Typewriter." Still, the templates do give you a general sense of how to lay out your resume, as well as the type of information you should include in each field.

Another notable feature is the Internet Job Agent, which allows users to search for jobs and post resume on the Web. You must have an Internet connection to use this feature; however, WinWay always asks permission before connecting you. Once connected, you can narrow your search, depending upon geographic location and job title keywords. Unlike our experience with customizable resumes, the Job Agent found us almost 300 job listings for writers in our city. Most of these listings are pulled from well-known job search engines, which saves users from having to search each individual database.

While other features like the interview simulation and salary negotiation seem a bit elementary or unbelievable, Resume Deluxe does prove its worth as a valuable part of any job search. Whether you take advantage of all the program's features or you simply choose the ones that fit best with your objectives, Resume Deluxe is sure to get the job done. --Gisele Toueg
