Product Description The World's Best-Loved Word Game Product InformationIt's Scrabble like you've never played it before!America's favorite word game goes digital! Put your tiles to the test againstMaven the games challenging artificial intelligence or play friends dire
Amazon.com Review If you can't find anyone to play with you because you're just too good--or you just don't like cleaning up little wooden tiles--the Scrabble CD-ROM is for you. Up to four players (human or computer) can play on a variety of boards and backgrounds (try chrome in the desert for that Road Warrior look). You can choose your computer opponent from five levels of difficulty, from Novice to Champion, or you can create your own custom opponent, based on a chesslike rating. Play is speedy and satisfying; the sounds of the tiles clicking on the board are alarmingly realistic. You can challenge words, be challenged yourself, or find definitions of words you don't know in the online Official Scrabble Dictionary. (You can even receive hints and suggestions from the "Maven.") Online multiplayer is in full force, too. Play with bored students in Oxford using the network features; though this slows the game down depending on your Internet connection rate, you'll find you need more time to crush your human challengers anyway. Sharpen your skills with the minigames: find two- or three-letter words, do anagrams, or find the best play with a given setup. Even if you're a regular Scrabble player, you should find yourself returning to your computer time and again, either to brush up or to try again against the champion. --Rob Lightner

Word fun April 30, 2008 J. Palmer I had an earlier version of this game, but the newest version has a lot more bells and whistles, my wife and I love to compete!
Main Problem with XP (Possible solution) September 1, 2005 Frontmaster (UK) 16 out of 17 found this review helpful
I have found when I first tried to play the scrabble game, I had the same problem of the screen going blank and machine crashing. I have found once the software is installed, if you find the main loading file, usually .exe extention in the location you installed it too, and right click on this file and choose properties, you can then choose compatibility, I selected run in 256 colour mode and the game runs fine. I hope this helps.
Scrabble Complete - Serious Problems Encountered November 10, 2004 Sue (WV, USA) 25 out of 26 found this review helpful
System requirements for this game include Windows XP. It loaded up fine, but would produce a blank screen when I tried to run the program. I went to the Atari website where the FAQs advised that all programs running in the background would have to be closed. This means I would have to drop my virus scanner and firewall in order to play the game and I was unwilling to do so since I have an always-on connection. I loaded, uninstalled and reloaded this program twice. It TOTALLY messed up my McAfee Security Center 6 program which (after multiple contacts with McAfee support) eventually required that I uninstall, and reload McAfee. I had to do this twice, once after each installation of Scrabble. Needless to say there will not be a third time. I went to the Atari website and wrote a question to Atari tech support over a week ago and they have not replied. Given the problems that it caused with McAfee, the fact it would not run, and the fact that tech support has not responded in over a week to my query, I would not recommend this program to anyone using an always on connection and firewall/virus scanner and would not recommend it to XP users as well.
Do NOT buy this game for Windows XP July 24, 2004 R. Long (New York) 28 out of 29 found this review helpful
My son bought Infogrames/Atari/Hasbro Scrabble v2.0 for me as a gift. The game has a faulty copy protection scheme - it requires the CD to be in the drive to play, but then fails to recognize that the CD is present. I spent hours trying to get this game to work because I didn't want my son to feel bad about the gift he gave me. Infogrames tech support was worse than useless (their toll support number is disconnected, they take 4-5 days to respond to email and advise you to reconfigure your entire computer to play the game - worse, the game still did not work after following their advice and removing all TSR's, changing the start up routine, changing video settings, etc). I finally downloaded a noCD program for GameCopy.com and was able to get the game to start, but it then would produce a black screen and hang the computer (cold boot required). At that point I cut my losses and threw the thing out. If you don't believe me, check out the online knowledge base at www.infogrames.com - the list of potential problems and proposed solutions for this game is extensive (and none of the solutions worked in my case). It may be cheap, but that only means it's not worth the time and effort to return it for a refund!
Great classic game February 29, 2004 destiny morna (louisiana) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Scrabble CD-rom is the game that we all grew up with but updated so that you can play on your computer. There are 6 different skill levels and you can play many different type games including classic scrabble against the computer, other players (up to 4), tournaments, online and special new mini games. The best way is to challenge "maven" the computer opponent. You can chose his skill level and increase it as you progress. The game also contains a dictionary so there is no arguing over which words are real. To help you, there is a cheat/hint code in the game that you can take advantage of when you are stuck. I have a Sony Vaio computer running windows XP and i had no trouble installing and playing this game. Scrabble CD rom is the classic game but made modern and more fun.
