Complete Dog November 26, 2008 Helen W (Vancouver BC) I was using SAV 10 on our small business network. When it came time for the annual license update, I followed the link provided by Symantec from the management console, which, instead of downloading a new license for my current application, downloaded SEP 11 instead. I assumed (erroneously) that my product had been deprecated and that this was the replacement. Symantec also downloaded a short file saying "Why install it yourself? Take advantage of our Remote Install service." When I reviewed the copious notes on what one had to do to do the install, I reluctanly ponied up for the Remote Install package (another $150), partly because I know from past experience that it is well nigh impossible to completely remove SAV from a computer (no, the Windows Installer can't do it). The remote install took 4 hours. After which, my entire network slowed to a crawl. IE sometimes took up to 2 minutes to bring up Google. At this point I realized that I had been had -- big time. I called Symantec and demanded a full refund, at which point they tried to persuade me into letting them uninstall SEP 11 and reinstall SAV 10 with a new license (what I thought I was asking for in the first place). Sorry -- too late. With the help of an IT Infrastructure expert, I got the program completely off my system, and replaced it with NOD32. For years I have been recommending Symantec's products to my business associates and home computer user friends. I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND A PRODUCT FROM THIS COMPANY AGAIN.

As I write this angry users with torches and pitchforks are banging on my door. This product is an absolute disgrace. Installs poorly and shutsdown anything you can think of with no override possible. Uninstalls like gar-bage and crashes exchange server in the process. WOW. Hard to believe this is supposed to be real software. Remote sessions requiring ms popup control in the underlying app. are blocked. When I called MS support the VERY FIRST QUESTION THEY ASKED is are you using SEP11? Goodbye Symantec.
Avoid like the plague that it is. September 8, 2008 D. Adams (Deep South, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is the absolute worst product I've had the (mis) fortune to use from Symantec, a formerly reputable company. My company got this product as an "upgrade" from SAV version 10 and it lasted all of 48 hours on our network. CPU usage on our server shot to 70% for minutes, clients were unable to see the server, everything ran stupider and slower. I could go on, but why bother? Avoid this at all costs -- try AVG or Trendmicro for some speedy protection that actually works.

I'm a certified Symantec Technlogy Specialist in Endpoint Protection, and this product has been improved (MR2) till become stronger and faster than before. Device control is my favorite part, coz i can control whose allowed to use USB flash desk. Our customers are satisfied with the new level of their endpoints' security. You can download the trail and test by your self. [...]
