Sound Forge 9 Upgrade - watch for rules July 1, 2008 Helen J. Bacon (Nazareth, PA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had a terrible time installing this upgrade. It was definitely the product I wanted to end up with, and since it is supposed to upgrade both SoundForge 8 or 7, I thought I was safe, since I had a license for 7. Turned out, though, that this is ONLY if you have SoundForge Professional 7 or 8 license that you can use this upgrade. After hours of total frustration and no explanation during the install process, and various attempts online and by phone for help by SONY, I finally got someone who really figured out the problem. And the solution cost me another $100 to allow my "upgrade" copy to be used as an "original" license. It was as if I never had SoundForge at all. BOTTOM LINE, this product description should be much clearer that it is only an upgrade for professional versions of SoundForge, not for the plain SoundForge versions. I really told SONY about the complete inconsistency of the naming of their products. What is shown on the box is not identical to what is shown during the installation process when you are to identify your existing software, nor is it the same as what is on their online "help" (if you can call it that!). The software itself is excellent, but really make sure you have SoundForge PRO version 7 or 8 before buying this one.
GREAT PRODUICT!, UPGRADERS BEWARE! November 22, 2007 R. READ (Arizona) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
SOUND FORGE 9.0 is great! The new mastering tools are wonderful. It is so easy to use and configure. All you have to do is understand digital audio and how to cut and paste. O.K. maybe a little more . UPGRADERS BEWARE! I have been using SF since Version 2.0 before Sony owned it. I usually buy my upgrades through Sonic Foundry and now Sony, but I wanted to take advantage of an Amazon credit card promo ($30.00 off). I upgraded from SF 7.0 to SF9.0 When I opened the upgrade box it was different for the advertised picture. It stated that this upgrade was only for SF 8.0 Users, and I was a SF 7.0 user. No where in Amazon's Ad for the SF 9.0 upgrade did it state only for SF 8.0 users. Sony's website has the upgrade for the same price that upgrades any previous version of SF. I am a computer tech for a living, so I was able to convince the SF 9.0 upgrade software that my SF 7.0 was really SF 8.0 , and successfully registered SF 9.00 with Sony. I would hate to see anyone with an earlier version of SF get burned by this poorly detailed advertisement by Amazon.
