An excellent company and product. February 8, 2008 SBJ400 (Mt. Laurel, NJ USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
As a computer and network consultant, I have had exposure to many different products. Raxco PerfectDisk 8 is an excellent product but the new 2008 version is much better so make sure you buy that! Diskeeper is the first that comes to mind when you think of disk defragmenting. Raxco is still an unknown to many. WHAT A SHAME. PerfectDisk is small, non intrusive and works very well. Some of the reviews before me hate just to hate. In all honesty, Diskeeper is a great product and company too. I like them both. But more and more I turn PerfectDisk as my recommended solution. You can fuss and make all kinds of ridiculous claims about the perfect features or methods of defragging are. Honestly, you don't need much. You need a solid program that can offer manual and scheduled defrags. If you are defragging more than once every week or so, all you are doing is wearing out your hard drive. 99.9% of all PC users out there typically do not need more than a standard defrag every 14 days. Gamers might (at times) need to defrag more often than most. PerfectDisk delivers all you need and more. It is also cheaper than Diskeeper. Again, I recommend both companies so if you buy one or the other, you will be fine. I think Raxco is the company to support. They deliver a solid performing product that does not hog your resources like Diskeeper can at times.
Wish I had bought Diskeeper Pro December 20, 2007 A.M. (Blacksburg, VA USA) 2 out of 6 found this review helpful
I read great things about this program so I bought it. A total disappointment!! It does not have nearly half of the Diskeeper Pro controls and functionality.
Works Well November 13, 2007 J. Cihak (Red Lion, PA) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I've used PerfectDisk products for almost 5 years. Never any problems or crashes! Very reliable. Never any corruption or crashes. The best feature of the software is optimized placement based on frequency of use. I've been a computer software/hardware engineer and system manager for 10 years with PC, HP UNIX, and DEC VMS experience, so I know good software when I see it. The previous review seems to be confused. When defragmenting, you expect the HD light to be on and performance to lag. You defrag on-demand every few months during off-times (like overnight).
Perfectdisk 8 is ALL HYPE!- Diskeeper 10 Pro Premier is "MUCH BETTER!" September 18, 2007 scottls1 (Kalispell, MT USA) 3 out of 16 found this review helpful
"Perfectdisk 8 is ALL HYPE!- Diskeeper 10 Pro Premier "with IFAAST", is MUCH BETTER!" by scottls (see profile) - September 18, 2007 Pros: NONE! With all the HYPE, I expected great results!- NOT! Cons: Constant disk activity, slows browser, SLOW defrag... ! Full user opinion I am a software tech, and am always testing products for my clients. I currently use/install Diskeeper 10 Pro "Premier (with IFAAST advanced pgm placement!)". PerfectDisk placement uses last modified, where IFAAST keeps track of "total usage". After reading the long list of nifty sounding features in PD8- I just HAD to "Free Trial" it (I suggest that you free trial them both, and see for yourself!)! I did every defrag feature it had- MFT, SYS files... Bottom line is how does my system (DELL XPS 400, 3.2ghz dual core, 4gig memory, XP, NOD32, SpySweeper..., did chkdsk & thorough file/Registry clean...) perform (compared to DK10)?- 1. Restarts were 20% longer. 2. Browser/email opens MUCH slower, or not at all (hangs/restart!). 3. The killer for me was the constant disk activity every 6-8 seconds (watch you HD light!)!- I have a 10,000rpm WD Raptor "C" HD (WOW!), that is a little noisy just during use. The constant "Brrrp", drove me NUTS, and the drive NEVER was never able to Turn off after 20 min (my Power Setting)! 4. Full system anti-virus scan was 20% slower. 5. Defrag on my 3mbps SATA slave HD, took 2 Hours (5min with DK10)! I also "HATED" DK 2007's constant defrag!- corrupted pgm installations! My performance tricks with DK 10 Pro "Premier"!- 1. Schedule "set and forget" IFAAST daily/late for a week, then weekly (I still schedule daily at 12am). NOTE!- You have to schedule IFAAST daily (late) for a week, before you will start seeing the "amazing" speed/opening improvement. after I uninstalled PD8 (did "complete" PD8 defrag, just prior), and then reinstalled DK10!- DK stats showed a 17% improvement over PD8! 2. I Schedule "set and forget" defrag (NOT MANUAL!- not as complete...!), daily at 3pm! I set defrag speed from "slow" to "fastest"! 3. "Once weekly"- schedule a secondary "Comprehensive" total defrag. a. On a different day of the week- Manually defrag the MFT, on startup. 4. IMPORTANT!- When setting up pre-allocated MFT (registry) size!- !!NEVER! go 20k more than already in use!
