Streets and Trips 2007 will change the way you travel. It helps you plan for things, such as fuel and expense calculations. You'll be more prepared before you go and more informed along the way. | Microsoft's "Locate Me" technology uses Wi-Fi hotspots to pinpoint your location, so you'll know precisely where you are as you're traveling. If you drive past your planned exit, a single click will get you back on track. The "Re-route from Here" feature quickly recalculates directions if you miss a turn. To find a certain POI, such as a restaurant or gas station, you simply select from 35 POI types to display on the map. You have the option of searching within a certain radius of an address that you choose, your current location, a specific direction within a planned route, or all of the POIs along the entire route. Your results are displayed in a directory-tree listing. When you click on a POI, a balloon box pops up on the map with detailed information, including an address and phone number, and if you right-click on the POI icon, you can add it to your route list. Personalize your maps with drawings, notes, and pushpins to mark important information. You can also import your contacts directly from Microsoft Office Outlook and Microsoft Office Excel. It just gets worse and worse. November 10, 2008 Marvin Fretwell (Boring, OR United States) I've bought upgrades for MS Streets & Trips faithfully. No longer. It is losing functionality instead of getting better. For example, in the 2004 release you could actually read the speed, altitude, information. In the 2007 version, you have to read print this size while trying to drive down the road. And the GPS panel takes up a huge part of the screen. 2004 was definitely superior. Now, why would a programmer do this? One would think they'd want to make it easier to use, not less. I use my S&T to travel remote roads to fishing places. It is really built bass ackwards for this. You can see rivers and lakes on the maps when they are at highway map scale (12 miles to the inch). But as you get closer, and want to zoom in, the rivers and lakes disappear. Makes one wonder where they hired their cartographers? Or perhaps that is the problem; do they have any on staff? The same errors perpetrate from upgrade to upgrade. I have found places on the highways of Canada and Alaska where the road is 4 to 6 miles away from where S&T shows it. And it never gets fixed. The only reason I still use S&T is because it does include Canada and Mexico -- after a fashion. It's competitors don't. But don't expect to be able to search for places in Canada or Mexico. Most of them are not in their database. For example, the Woodall's campgrounds in Canada are almost all unlisted, despite Microsoft's claim that all are listed. Too bad Microsoft is content with this product. It is okay for freeway travelers, and for most city streets. But it is sorely lacking for the rest of our vast country.
Microsoft Streets and Trips 2007 October 27, 2008 R. Ruess Microsoft Streets and Trips is a program that we have used for a few years and are happy with it for the most part. Some locations we attempted to locate on our 2004 version did not track to the proper destination even though the sites were virtually local ones. However, the overall trip plan and mileage functions are what we desire and we are very happy with this part of the software.
Best Map App - much better than DeLorme May 25, 2007 Raymond E. Bachelor 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Stay Away from DeLorme - for an Interstate Highway here in NC - I 40 & I 85 DeLorme has no exit numbers at all !!! Not on their map or directions - their tech support offered no apologies either, just said that their US map info provider had no information in this area for Highway exit numbers, that means no mileage marker info is available with DeLorme at all !!!
Good Product May 20, 2007 Larry L. Wolfrum (Phoenix, AZ) The only improvement I would like to see is more local landmarks on the maps and altitudes appearing on the maps too.
Best Software Money Spent Each Year May 8, 2007 T. Martin (Seattle, WA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
For the price of MS Streets and Trips and the number of times I use this product per year, this is the one of the best software values I know. Great for planning trips, driving times and optimizing routes even for around town driving. The valuable uses of this product are too numerable to mention -- finding restaurants, finding Starbucks, figuring driving times to a destination plus side trips, the list goes on. If you are keen on optimizing your driving time and/or maximizing your travel adventure then this is a valueable tool.
