Amazon.com Review Cruise ahead of your classmates in any subject you like with Excel @ Middle School. This comprehensive school-prep package won't replace the years you spend in the classroom, but it will make them easier. Four history sections as well as two math, three science, and three English sections cover pretty much everything you'll need to know to succeed in the years before high school. Start out by taking some tests to evaluate your strengths and weaknesses, then devise a study plan to follow for as long as you like. Switch back and forth between subjects or focus exclusively on one; either way, you'll improve your performance overall with the general tips and tricks that help you take tests and write papers better. The graphics are professional and, while not as fun or as far-out as popular video games, they won't distract from the lessons as you progress. Though there's a powerful multimedia encyclopedia included and Web links to help you with new material and ideas for projects, the lessons (especially in history) are surprisingly linear and don't take as much advantage of hypertext as other, similar packages. Still, the information is clearly presented and cohesive, with each self-contained lesson providing means for evaluating your comprehension and progress. The science and math lessons use graphics well to emphasize their points; the animated math tutor is especially helpful. With additional programs to help you read and type faster, build your own multimedia reports, and even pick up a bit of French and Spanish, Excel @ Middle School is a great deal for kids who want to continue learning outside the classroom. --Rob Lightner

Consider it... December 16, 2005 Carlos A. Diaz-Velazquez (San Juan, PR United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this software back in 2001 and at that time found it to be a bit too dry. Still, I was desperate for anything to inspire my kids to do math via PC. Jump to 2005, I am taking a college Calculus course at night and lost in a jungle of understandable theory dependant on long forgotten basics: basic algebra, basic trigonometry etc. I found a fairly helpful text book and guess what? Yes, I loaded this program and ran the 1st CD. It became my late night back-up buddy... It covers practically everything I need and the price is OK. Outdated but just in time...

The software is defective. The claimed manufacturer and tech support provider no longer accepts claim for this software. In order to use the software and download it I am instructed to list my name with Knowledgeadventure.com per use of modem which goes to the company "Knowledge Adventure." However, as Knowledge Adventure Inc., is no longer is affiliated with this software and has no idea who is (but will give plenty of run around) I can't sign in and download the software. Therefore the software is useless. I suggest the ceasing and desisting of selling this product. To claim this product currently has any affiliation with Knowledge Adventure as you are led to believe by the packaging and manual is a total lie!!!
pros and cons July 30, 2003 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
pros// the good thing about this program is well, it DOES teach you something. there's a lot to learn. they explain subjects to the last word. there's a calender for you to plan when you want to learn what. cons// ok... it's boring. flat out from my mouth. there is a TON to read. from time to time a mini video would pop out. but it's probably two for every SUBJECT. they explain subjects, yes, but not everything. they don't explain how to solve a problem. ok, they do. but not so you can understand EVERY SINGLE STEP. pointer:: if you buy this, i suggest* buying another reference book or CD. this is just a suggestion from me. if this program is easy for you when you buy it, they you obviously don't need another source.

Very simple/helpful, but with no availability to download product updates, it will (like most other programs) be obsolete within a short time. And apparently Knowledge Adventure has either merged with another company or disappeared almost without a trace, because the company that claims to handle their products is choosing to disavow all Knowledge of this particular item...Otherwise if you don't mind not being able to get product support then the program seem to be easy to follow & a great refresher too...
Defective cd July 26, 2002 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
I wish I knew how ALL the cds were, but the few that would install were okay. The encyclopedia is very complete, and the typing is pretty good.
