My kids love it January 4, 2007 Patrica Morris (Loves Parrk, Il) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
My kids love School House ROck. I play on occasion when they forget to click out of the program. Lots of fun.
Great learning tool plus all the videos you remember January 11, 2006 Z*lda (Dubuque, IA USA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Grammar Rock is a wonderful learning tool. We just started homeschooling a 4th grader and were looking for educational software that teachs "parts of speech." This one is excellent! Lots of cute games (admittedly, some better than others) give plenty of practice on how to recognize a subject, predicate, noun, adjective, etc. Plus, the disc contains all those Schoolhouse Rock Grammar videos that you remember from your childhood! There are 3 levels of gameplay. For a 4th grader, level one is too easy. The lowest level is geared toward beginning sight readers, the 2nd and 3rd levels towards kids who read independently but who need to learn grammar concepts. We did have some difficulty installing this software initially, but once we reinstalled Quicktime, it worked OK. You have to use your "listening" skills to play this game, so you'll need to run it on a computer with a good sound setup so you can distinguish the sounds of spoken words. "Grammar Rock" also comes bundled with 3 other programs in a set called "Achieve: Writing & Language Arts" for Grades 3-6. I would recommend buying the bundle for a better bargain.
Teacher Recommended! February 14, 2003 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
The teacher says yes! Well, I grew up with Schoolhouse Rock. I sing most of the songs to myself when teaching these areas of language arts. My students tend to play the videos (of the originals as played on TV) over and over as they play the language arts games. From the conductor in Conjunction Junction to the boy in Lolly Lolly Get Your Adverbs Here, they all show up. Schoolhouse Rocky shows you the way as you learn, laugh and sing along. Also: look for Math Rock, which is just as good!! Several different levels are available on both games.
It STILL Rocks! December 29, 2000 18 out of 19 found this review helpful
I totally loved the between cartoons cartoons that inadverdently taught me about history, grammar, and political process. They STILL rock, only our techie-kids can get even more from the CD Roms. My 4 year old laughed out loud and found the context very entertaining, and like her mother, had no idea just how much she was learning. I highly recommend this CD Rom.
