Kids will jump at the chance to join Frankie the dog for a treasure hunt (even if the final object is to learn basic math and spelling skills). But it's clear that JumpStart 1st Grade isn't the "play-for-play's-sake" type of game by the academic style of the questions kids are asked to answer. In addition, parents can view reports to track their child's progress. We advise that adults initially play this game with kids, since it's not always clear where to click next to keep the story moving. It can take a little while for kids to get oriented with what they are supposed to do in the game's activities. Also, the content in the games can lead to questions: synonym matching and fractions, for example, might be puzzling even with the cartoon teacher's explanations. For more difficult quizzes, we recommend using the option of turning on a tutor. The best part of the JumpStart series is the wide range of topics that children are exposed to: science, art, mathematics, and grammar basics. JumpStart: 1st Grade adheres to this pattern. The software also provides great positive reinforcement as kids get the right answers, both visually (in the form of treasure pieces) and audibly (with the feedback of Frankie). JumpStart exists to reinforce lessons taught in school and is a colorful way for kids to practice their newly learned skills.

I am a huge fan of these video games. They are wonderful tutorials for young children and they make it fun to learn. They are plug and play which means that you put the disc in the computer and you are ready to go. If your child needs tutoring, these games may be the answer for you. My grown children used them and now I have purchased them again for my granddaughter. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

This software is great both my kids love this. The topics of study include: Spelling, Literature, Early Math, Science, Geography, Vocabulary, Music, Reading & Sentences, Art & Creativity, Sequencing & Ordering, Comprehension, Phonics and Letter Sounds.
Kids practice reading skills with eight story books which tastefully deal with children from other countries, races and cultures. Painting activities are included. Colors provided are red, yellow, blue, black, and brown. You need to mix the colors to make your secondary colors.
Ms. Pickles, the cook, will guide you through fractions when you help serve food in the cafeteria line. The player must learn to make and divide pizza quickly, to serve to the students in the food line. Kids enjoy the silliness of making the correct sized pizza and topping it with worms, flies and mushrooms! Another activity that is great is using coins into the vending machine with Frankie. Cash register practice for the lunch room, you need to add the prices for the foods that the students purchase. The cash register will guide students and confirm that their addition and subtraction are correct.
Graphics and Sound: Kids love the encouraging tunes that play from the yellow radio. The radio is musical accompaniment for a field trip to the beach. My daughter found great humor as the shark mistakenly takes a bite out of a rock. She loved to sing his favorite song "Reading is Fun," while she enjoyed his observation of the beach activities.
Conclusion: Jump-Start First Grade is outstanding kid's software. Useful as a skill builder and reinforce for children attending school or for home school families. Parents and kids will be glad that Knowledge Adventure created an entire Jump-Start series for children to learn and advance through! The entire grade school in a box is a fantastic idea too. Families that value education will appreciate this set! Each grade level can be purchased separately, or the entire set can be purchased at one time. Feel confident purchasing the entire set at a discount....you will be glad that you did!
