How can Convekta ignore Vista October 10, 2008 R9 (Sacramento, CA USA) This software does not run under Vista. Coming up soon, Microsoft will not even sell XP, so Vista was released recently. Convekta uses programming practices that are not in line with long-published MS standards, does not comply with those standards when it counts (when the software breaks), does not provide updates to support the standards, and then actually blames MS for the problem, leaving the customer out whatever money they spent. Amazing. Sorry, but that is just not good business practice. This is not the only title that suffers from these problems. I have purchased several and had install and runtime errors that will not go away after repeated fix attempts, including the one offered on the Convekta web site. Placed several support requests, never got any answer of any kind. Nothing. Zero. My system is stable, new, all stock and has no other software install or run problems. Only Convekta is a problem.
Great for all! October 1, 2008 Thomas Andrew Hedrick This item says it's for Beginners, but it doesn't matter your age, it's a great product to re-teach the fundamentals to anyone. At this price it won't hurt to check it out. It's always a great gift!
Doesn't work with Vista December 13, 2007 Jonathan D. Newcomb (Seattle, Wa. USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This may be a great program, but it doesn't work with Vista and no where does AMZN or the product, say so. For me, its a total waste of money. My kids chess club tutor recommended however and thus I give it 3 stars anyway.
Excellent beginners chess program. September 29, 2006 C. Chambers 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Very well done chess tactics training program by Convekta. Graphics and interface are good, not great. The course material, however, is excellent. This, in conjunction with Convekta's "Advanced Chess School," is a good start for entry level players seeking to raise their chess knowledge and skill level before moving on to Convekta's vaunted "CT-ART 3.0.
An invaluable tool to improve July 15, 2006 Chess Player trying to improve 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I bought chess tactics for beginners, since my coach recommended. For a few months a sporadically did 5 or 6 puzzles, but never paid much attention to it. A few months ago, I was tired of being stuck at 1100, and systematically did 50 puzzles a day on this, in addition to studying books. (There are approximately 1300 puzzles, so I have repeated the puzzles 3 times so far and plan to repeat it twice more). My tactical vision has sharpened considerably. My rating jumped 100 points (this could be because of the books), and many patterns have been molded into my head from this software. It shows a graph of your tactical elo, useful in figuring out if you are improving or not. Also, it gives hints that help you but are never to revealing. Finally, the order of puzzles makes it so a particular pattern is chiseled into your mind, and even when you think you've got it, it give you more so you the patterns are completely burned in your brain. Highly Recommended!!!
