    Product Description
Windows Live OneCare helps protect your computer, and its automated optimization features keep your PC running at its speediest. OneCare even regularly backs up your important files. Windows Live OneCare constantly thinks about your computer's safety and maintenance--so you don't have to. OneCare communicates the status of your PC's health in the notification area of your Windows taskbar: A green icon means your status is Good. Protection Plus features like antivirus, anti-phishing, and firewall are up to date and turned on, and your computer is not due for a tune-up or a backup. Windows Live OneCare is running in the background, monitoring your system to prevent threats like viruses or spyware. A yellow icon means your status is Fair. Usually this means you have an action to take, such as scheduling or running a tune-up or backup, turning on the Microsoft Phishing Filter, or downloading a non-critical update. A yellow icon means there is no immediate threat to your system, but you should take care of the action as soon as you can to return your system to green. A red icon means that your computer is At Risk. This can happen if, for example, Windows Live OneCare is unable to update Protection Plus with the latest virus definitions because of a lost Internet connection, or if the Windows Live OneCare Firewall is turned off.
You get all this in one convenient package: Protection Plus, with its antivirus and antispyware scanners and managed, two-way firewall, helps protect your computer from viruses, worms, Trojan horses, hackers, phishing, and other threats. It runs continuously in the background, but you can scan individual files and folders for viruses on demand simply by right-clicking them. You can even scan attachments you receive via Windows Live Messenger or MSN Messenger. Performance Plus regularly defragments your hard disk, removes any unnecessary files that can clog your PC, and helps make sure importa

    5 out of 5 stars A great program   May 8, 2008
    William R. Colbert
When I first started to use this program (this is my 3rd year) I was told by my computer literate friends that I would be sorry. The word was that Microsoft couldn't write a good error-free program. Well since then they all have gone to One Care and feel that it is by far the best there is out there. If like me you want a program that does it all and keeps on top of everything that needs to be done when it needs to be done then this is definitely the one for you. Not long ago one of my machines (I have three that are protected with the one program) died and when I plugged in a new tower, went on line and then to the One Care site it found the program (from points on the monitor is my best guess) and brought my new machine back up without a hitch. Now that's service.

    5 out of 5 stars Great Product/Awasome Price   April 22, 2008

Great product. I am using it for second year. Have been very satisfied with OneCare and decided to continue with it. The price is amazing especially this time. I got it from Amazon market place for $5 because it is an old version but this does not matter. All you need is the subscription key and you can get the latest version online unless you already have it as in my case (I was renewing my subscription).

1 out of 5 stars OneCare will never completely defragment your hard disk   March 4, 2008
    T. Pritchard
I just bought a new laptop with OneCare 2.0 preinstalled. My system is much faster than when I used Norton and (so far - 1 month!) I have been mostly happy with it. However, I noticed that the weekly tune-up kept coming back with a message saying "C:/ Defragmentation partially completed*. Because of high levels of disk fragmentation, starred volumes could not be completed in this Tune-Up and are marked for defragmentation in later Tune-Ups". I presumed this was because my computer was new and I had recently installed lots of new programs so I ran the defragmenter included in the Vista operating system which took a few hours but did the job. I then immediately ran a tune-up through OneCare and the defragmentation came back as being successful. However, 2 days later (during which time I only used the computer to check my email), the automatic tune-up returned the same message of "Partially completed... High levels of disk fragmentation...". After connecting with a OneCare representative via chat, I was told that the defragmenter would never complete the defragmentation process. To quote directly from the chat: "...as for the tune-up process on OneCare, it really doesn't complete the tune-ups." and "In order for you to complete it, you have to manually do that defragmentation on your local disk." In answer to my question of what's the point of including defragmentation in the OneCare program then, I was told: "As part of the tune-up process, and since OneCare is only sharing some services of your Vista, it doesn't complete it.", which makes absolutely no sense to me! Obviously, the defragmenter is included for free in your OS but if OneCare says it will automatically defragment your computer during programmed tune-ups, it should do this 100% every time, especially if you just did a complete defragmentation two days ago. As I say, apart from that, I have not (so far!) had any other problems but I now understand the paranoia in relation to Microsoft.

5 out of 5 stars Very happy with OneCare   January 21, 2008
    Rose (Southeast, MO USA)
I was fed up with Norton so when my husband asked me buy anti-virus software for his new laptop I knew it wasn't going to be Norton. After reading the reviews here on Amazon I decided to try OneCare.

We like it so much that we installed in on new desktop, as well.

I haven't had one virus and I like that it let's me know what's going on with my pc while I'm online.
