Encyclopedia membership ends Oct 2006 June 5, 2006 Melissa J. Newman (Elizabeth, NJ United States) 22 out of 22 found this review helpful
The encyclopedia membership for Encarta ends on Oct. 2006, so don't bother buying this if you plan to use it for a later school year. Also, keep in mind that this is a subscription software that will need to be renewed each year. On Microsoft's web site, the monthly membership price is $4.95 per month, the cost of the software includes the membership. But it is not based on when you buy the software. It is based on the academic school year.
Great product for young students March 9, 2006 John M. Abbott 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
My kids love going through Encarta and learning new things. The kids section inpires them to learn. I regularly use the product to look up different topics, especially the goody questions the kids come up with on obscure topics I have no way of knowing.
MS Student Software March 7, 2006 M. palomba 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Seems to provide all the tools you need for a good graphing calculator funtions. The Encarta web link and stuff is a bit of Bloatware.
Definitely Not For Everyone February 23, 2006 Steve K. (King George, VA United States) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
Don't bother buying this unless you already own MS Office 2003 and a PC running Windows XP. Many of the advanced study and homework features won't work on their own if you don't have Office 2003. The Encarta encyclopedia is a great program, but you can save some money by purchasing Encarta by itself, looking up information for free through the search.msn.com web site, or buy an enhanced subscription to the online version of Encarta ($30/yr.,$5/mo.) Parents with grade-school age children may want their own copy of Encarta so children can enjoy extra multimedia and look up information without having to visit any internet sites first. Teenagers and adults who just need an easy way to look up basic information can probably use the free web access just fine.
Sneaky Mircosoft Deceptive Monopoly February 11, 2006 Robert Welsh (las vegas, nv) 10 out of 19 found this review helpful
In normal print "Include tools designed for Mircosoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint" In much smaller print (Requires Office XP or Office 2003, available separately) Why should anyone give Mircosoft money when there are tools available separately that will enable piracy of their overpriced software.
