To battle beside lesser gods... August 17, 2008 OAKSHAMAN (Algoma, WI United States) I was hesitant to buy this game because I thought that it would be too much like the AGE OF EMPIRES games (which I owned and liked.) I found that this game differed enough to be worth the extra time and money. All the hero and mythology units really do add an entirely different feel to the play. Plus, the the story line and cut scenes for the 36 campaign scenerios was very well done. You actually begin to identify with the various characters. There are also enough minor differences in units and technology between this game and AOE to require a bit of learning- this isn't a straight clone. All-in-all I enjoyed the couple of weeks that it took me at night to fight my way through to the end. The single player custom scenarios are also quite entertaining. Actually I haven't enjoyed a game this much in years. One small comment, I do not know where they get "nine civilizations" here. You have the Greeks, the Egyptians, and the Norse and their respective pantheons- even the Atlantians are clearly Greek.
BEST **** THING THAT HIT THE RACKS!!! May 27, 2007 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
Picky people, anyone who rates this lower than 5. This game is AWESOME! Anyone who says, "It gets old," would have to be told a lot that they get tired of things easily. Anyone who says, "The graphics are cruddy," has an old computer. (no offense or anything :] ) I recommend this game for...ah, let's see...EVERYBODY WHO LOVES FUN!!!
Very good simulation, very fun May 14, 2007 John Z. Miller III (New Paltz, NY) 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
A good simulation in the typical build and achieve goals mode. Some fun mythological beasts, soldiers, etc., Gods to pray to. Gives a bit of a history lesson as well.
Age of Empires with a HUGE twist December 30, 2006 Carmen Smith (Michigan, USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Whether you're a fan of RTS games or perhaps just interested in a different type of game, then I highly recommend Age of Mythology. It really is part of the Age of Empires family except with a great big twist: Positive: 1.) Graphics: The realism of the characters, buildings, and units is just great in this game because they all move and act realistically. I also have to mention that the water is incredible because you even watch the ships sink down into it as it glistens all around it. 2.) Music: Great as always, I wouldn't expect anything less from Ensemble. It's very unique to this game and puts you in that mythic mood. 3.) Characters: They're all very unique and have their own special powers that, when used, will do nothing less then blow you away. 4.) Campaigns: From the moment you start the first one until the very last one that you finish, you're glued to your screen. 5.) Unique character abilities: In AOM you can get heroes that all have their own special abilities. Some will charge into battles, others will leap to get a jump start. Either way they're all unique and fun. Negative: 1.) Saving: At times it can take a little bit longer to save your game but it's nothing that really gets on your nerves. Summary: If you're an RTS fan or simply curious about AOM, I recommend this game because it's one of the most addicting games I've ever played. Many compare to Rise of Nations or Civilization, but I feel that it's in its own category. Fresh, new, and dare I say it, an addiction.
Same old, same old.. February 24, 2006 Ranjan Chari (New York City) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
Ok, I did not expect anything different from Age of Kings when I bought this game. I wanted just more of the same and this is what I got. So in terms of innovation, this game does not deliver anything more than it's predecessors. It may be more fun if you're new to Age of Empires, and in that case I suggest that you by the Age of Empires - Age of Kings version of the game.
