Great Product April 6, 2007 D. Bradley (KC,MO) Though Final Cut Express 3.0 is not the latest in the line it was a steal at this price and works essentially the same as 3.5. The additional program, LiveType, that accompanies FCE is more than worth the purchase price. I've used it for several other applications aside from FCE since it exports as quicktime movies.
Worthwhile upgrade; make sure you haven't outgrown it December 8, 2005 Matt OneLANE (Cheshire, CT United States) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is a worthwhile upgrade, especially for owners of FCE 1.x...there is not that much new here for users who own FCE 2.x, except for the HD video capabilities. I have started wondering whether I'm ready to use the features found in the "Pro" version -- and a little annoyed that some of the features in Express seem to be crippled merely to distinguish between FCE and FCPro. (A good example is being able to save a custom column layout in the Browser -- you can do it in Pro, and USED to be able to do it in FCE, but not any more!) I also want exportable/importable Edit Decision Lists (EDLs); most of the third party apps that work with Final Cut depend on reading and writing these XML-based lists to do their job. The best you can do with FCE and a third party logging product is produce a printed or on-screen EDL from the third-party product that you then use as a guide in FCE for editing. BUT, those are quibbles, and to be expected from a stripped-down version of a high end product. Overall, FCE delivers the goods, and provides a degree of control over projects that will be a revelation to iMovie owners patient enough to follow the learning curve.
A valuable upgrade to FCE2 March 24, 2005 Tor Sigurdsson (Iceland) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
FCE/HD bringing Soundtrack and LiveType to the hobbyist is one of the more generous steps Apple has taken since they brought us FCE1. This is a very big and very useful addition to FCE allowing us to sync audio/music and titles much cleaner to our videos than we could before. Wholeheartedly recommended.
