Depends on your use March 29, 2005 Greg Bulmash (Lynnwood, WA United States) The Hemera "Photo Clip Art 150,000" contains almost all the images in this collection, but this is nearly 4x the price for 1/3 the images. What is the difference? The images here have about a 20% higher resolution and transparency masks (i.e. Photo Clip Art forces you to have a colored background, but you can have no background with photo objects). Neither is really suitable for print unless you don't want to print any of the photos beyond 2 inches high/wide. If you're designing for the web, you're usually going to throw a background in behind photos anyway, or if you need the transparency, you can easily select some obscure color for the background and "magic wand" it out in 30 seconds. So, if you bought the whole photo objects collection, you'd spend nearly ten times as much to get mostly the same photos (i.e. Photo Clip Art has 26 photos of an Asian woman as a nurse while Photo Objects has the same 26 photos plus 3 more) a little larger and with transparency. If you're a professional designer who would use this extensively, the extra cost might be worth it. But if you're dabbling in web design, get the "Photo Clip Art 150,000" instead and save yourself a LOT of money.
Mostly old and out of date images but some decent as well November 20, 2003 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Images of people and computers are really dated. Forget using any of the technology related images unless you want to picture stuff thats over 6 years old. If you need basic images of flowers and animals this CD will work for you.
Nice but sneaky. August 4, 2003 Paul Charlesworth (Houghton, MI USA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I think I am happy with these, but I am not sure. The software is very strange and you cannot use the images without it. It works, but I would rather be able to catalog the images with something less clunky. The catalog contains both vol 1 and vol 2 image previews, which in one sense is good because you know what is available, but is annoying because the images you really want to use cost another ...!
Well worth the price. February 20, 2003 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
Coming from a professional design perspective and using other sources for royalty free stock photography for the past 16 years....Vol 1 is well worth the price. Other sources I've used cost more than twice as much for a few hundred shots. Not to mention that composed photography (elaborite scenes or settings) has limited uses. Photo objects allows me the freedom to create a composition exactly how I want if I need to.Shots are super clean, most even when exported at 300 DPI . Some products are shot in multiples from different perspectives with different lens...something that 's nearly unheard of with the popular alternatives. The searchable keyword database is a life saver and so much faster display of thumbnails than Cumulus. I can locate suitable shots instantly. Beware: Although the sales information may say "CD" it actually comes on 1 DVD. You will need a DVD drive to use this. Also, I had some issues installing it on my Mac OSX. For some reason when opening the Mac install folder it hung up every time, not allowing me access to the installer. My solution was to boot off OS 9, create and alias of the OSX installer from the DVD and place it on the desktop. Then reboot in OSX, locate the alias and double click...installed fine. I purchased both Volumes, 1 and 2 but I'm still waiting on Vol 2. Thankfully, I don't see myself purchasing another...CD of limited pictures any time soon. I wish I had come across Hemera's product line sooner.
