| Features:
| • | Disk defrag - optimizes the drive, then combines all the empty free space together into one contiguous block. This in turn improves the overall speed and performance of the drive | | • | Directory repair, repartition on-the-fly, device/volume cloning, integrity testing, benchmarking, secure erase and several other tools to help maintain your hard drive | | • | Your hard drive should be defragged every 2 months or so. If you are working with smaller files (Microsoft Office, emails) you should run defrag every 3 to 4 months | | • | OS X only optimizes files under 20MB. It also only optimizes the files not the drive, so even though the smaller files are optimized there can be empty space in between the files themselves. Drive Genius 2 has the ability to optimize the drive, by putting all pieces of the file together | | • | Able to repartition your hard drive 'on-the-fly' (no need to reformat the hard drive) allowing you to add, delete, hide or expand partitions live. |

Product Description Is your Mac running slower? You probably need to defrag your drive. Although OS X optimizes the files in the Mac, it doesn't optimize the drive itself. Drive Genius 2 has the ability to defrag, directory repair and repartition on-the-fly. This is the same product used by Apple at the Genius Bar to defrag your drive (Part of the ProCare program offered by Apple). This software makes hard drive maintenance tasks painless, fast and easy. So prevent disaster by using Drive Genius 2 to maintain your computer.

Drive Genius..genius January 6, 2009 Jacques Caron (Canada) Drive Genius 2 Exactly what I needed! A simple, yet effective, software to manage hard disks (be it internal or external, FW or USB or SATA). The sale's pitch from the company is radically true. Please be sure to read the user's guide, as there are a number of different manipulations that you can do on a HD. Totally satisfied (specially the re-partition and the defragment options).
Drive Genius v2.1-Excellent Product / Excellent Service January 6, 2009 BNB I have found Drive Genius v2.1 to be an excellent and important addition to the software I use. I have found it ease to use and fast. It has done an excellent and fast job of defragmentation, scanning, repair to mention just a few of its available functions. It does require boot from a boot disk in order to do its stuff on the boot hard drive but that is normal for all of the software I have used in this category. When working with all of my external hard drives it works from my primary hard drive without the need of the boot disk. I thought I would mention that I obtained my software through MacHeist and I had an initial problem. Prosoft's technical support was fantastic - well above average. They responded within one day and gave me the information I needed to get up and running. My experience is going to lead me to check out the other software offered by ProSoft. I used this product on my iMac (2.8 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo)
It works as promised December 11, 2008 D. Foltz I was pretty skeptical about using this software after reading the reviews. But I got it from a bundle deal and after the Mac Geniuses uses it so I gave it whirl. After running the part to that identifies files to remove I eliminated 3.5 gigs of space that I wasn't using. It worked great. A week later and I can't detect any problems it caused. I also ran the disc defrag. It also has worked well. I'd say its a great utility to have.
Very Useful Product December 4, 2008 Stephen A. Merritt (Sacramento, CA, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Product arrived on time. Packaging is kinda weird -- it's one CD, but comes in a double width DVD case. Works exactly as expected EXCEPT the disk "cloning" feature will only work if it's not the STARTUP disc being "cloned" -- that's a bit annoying, since freeware applications (such as SuperDuper!) WILL do this. Also, some of the utilities are twins of ones that the OS already provides. Also, the product has been updated -- update is available from the ProSoft website -- with features which aren't on the CD (the "SlimDrive" option, for example). I'll be figuring out how to create my own boot DVD with this feature, since, like the "cloning" feature, this can only be done on a disk that's NOT the Startup Disk. Otherwise, it's exactly what I hoped it was -- and, since I'm not INTEL based (yet -- I have a G5 tower) -- I had no compatibility issues, and my system boots from the CD as expected. One thing -- the software requires a SERIAL NUMBER which comes on a YELLOW sheet inside the double width DVD case. Make sure you keep that somewhere safe -- otherwise, at PRECISELY the moment you really NEED this software, you won't be able to use it. Cheers!
Exonerated! Balancing the Bashing- read on... November 20, 2008 William V. Powell (San Francisco Peninsula) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
There WERE boot problems with some Intel Mac models running newer Leopard versions when Drive Genius 2 was first released, caused by Apple's footdragging and their delayed release of required startup parameters. However, all other Drive Genius 2 features were and are functional. Prosoft Engineering was head and shoulders above other utility software vendors (who shall remain unnamed) in their response to the fix with the release of v2.0.3. (Don't get me started on the Santa Rosa outfit that always pre-sells its next cure-all version and takes a year to deliver. They are at it again, right now.) Then in September 2008, v2.1 was released with many improvements and the addition of DriveSlim(tm), a clutter finding and eliminating feature. Drive Genius 2.1 is a stable, mature utility that is continually being improved and in nearly all cases, updates at no additional cost to users. Prosoft Engineering is responsive, supportive and comsumer positive. Drive Genius 2.1 is indeed the best product of its type available.
