I uninstalled Vista Ultimate and installed Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 SP2B for System Builders. My computer is now much more stable and works properly.

1 out of 5 stars One of the biggest piece of junk... rather use 98 or xp home   July 10, 2008

I really think this product deserves no stars at all, but 1 star is the lowest so... whatever. Anyway, buyers, I STRONGLY recommend you to not even look at windows XP MCE, because it's a HUGE piece of junk that microsoft has ever made. ok, so when I built my own computer and installed windows xp media center edition, i found out that whenever i watched a video clip and exit it out or minimize it when I finished watching it, it would just completely freeze or stop... the computer wouldn't do a thing. it's not just that, if i try to watch a video clip in whatever folder i have it saved on, it would just close out the folder I was at, and give out a message that says "Dr Watson debugger this and that.." simply saying that there is a bug in the folder and i can't navigate around it. so I couldn't even watch a video clip in that folder.
It's not just that, and I faced many other problems that I would end up filling the entire page listing every problems I had using winxp MCE... so buyers, I 100% guarantee that if you buy winxp mce, you'll probably have one of the biggest regret in your life after using it...

5 out of 5 stars Rock solid and great functionality   April 26, 2008

MCE 2005 is a great value for me. Even a year and one service pack after Vista came out I have no intention to upgrade. MCE 2005 provides me and my famiy a click-of-a-button ease to watch and record TV, play our favorite music and remember great moments by watching pictures, all from an easy remote-control. MCE 2005 has a clean, sleek and fast interface.

Of course, not everything can be done from the Media Center interface, but the intended stuff (TV, Pictures, Videos) are very easily accessed and used.
Other features may require minimizing the Media Center interface to access XP's desktop and start menu.

All in all, a good buy, even today.
