Best Low-End 3D Rendering/Modelling Available! April 24, 2007 Corky Beachglow (Palos Verdes, CA USA) As with all 3D modelling programs, many of which were actually coded to work on workstations and not personal computers, this program requires a bit of study and project-building, to come up to speed. Strata is a pioneer software company, that pre-dated PIXAR and other later animation firms. I learned on Raydream which pales by comparison to this program. Although animation is possible, this program is a bit bottom-heavy for that purpose, better suited to product rendering, and scene construction. Let the programs that run on later operating systems to the heavy-lifting required for animation of 3D objects. This is a great intermediate to entry-level application for 3D. In fact, this program is still being used by many studios today and is a solid introduction to the more expensive and demanding software out there!
Good 3D Application entry February 2, 2001 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
If you have't the time or the money when trying your expermintations on 3D applications, then this product is for you. I've used Strata for a couple years now, and it has taught me some very simple but effective 3D modelling and animation knowledge. Comming from a Computer Science background I was always fascinated in Computer graphics, and Strata was my first product. With it you get a very indepth set of manuals which take you step by step in modelling examples as well as animation examples. Not just take but version 2.5.3 is a real stunner. It comes with (plugins + reference manual) that really make a difference when created CG. It has some limitations, and it requires quite a lot of memory on Macintosh systems (only used on Macintosh 9600/350), but for an entry 3D application, it is very easy to learn, and you will be creating CG in no time. Conclusion: Though not the best in the 3D application software area, it does produce stunning CG/animation - (used in creating certain scenes for Hercules), it is very easy to learn and through that learning you may extend your 3D knowledge in other 3D software. 4 stars.
