Amazon.com Product Description PC and Mac compatible, the Canon CanoScan LiDE 25 is an efficient color scanner that delivers high-quality results. Ideal for home or small office use, this compact flatbed model with 8.5-by-11.7-inch platen produces up to 1,200 x 2,400 dot-per-inch (dpi) optical resolution (software enhanced resolution: 19,200 color dpi) and 48-bit color depth, for over 281 trillion possible colors and incredibly vibrant images. The Z-Lid expansion top easily accommodates bulky items. One simple cable provides both power and a USB connection, which helps reduce the number of wires cluttering your workspace. Whether you're scanning old family photos, personal documents, or a company memo, the streamlined LiDE 25 is easy to use. Three buttons automate the entire process, so you can effortlessly scan, send images to your printer for copying, or prepare attachments for an email. After you position your original and select the use for the image, you can preview the result in approximately 16 seconds. The LiDE 25 even saves you time after you scan, by automatically retouching and enhancing your image. Additionally, this model comes with powerful software applications, including the CanoScan Toolbox 4.9, which you can use to scan documents and then create and manipulate PDFs. If you're tackling a larger project, in the Multi-Scan Mode you can scan multiple images simultaneously, rather than one by one. Simply arrange them on the glass and select Multi-Scan. The LiDE 25 scanner also comes with Quick Automatic Retouching and Enhancement (QARE) technology, which reduces dust and scratches that may appear on older originals. It even autocorrects to help decrease graininess, picture fading, and improper backlighting. After enhancement you can archive these beautiful images and then e-mail them or print them for family and friends. What's in the Box CanoScan LiDE 25, ScanGear CS (Win/Mac), CanoScan Toolbox CS (Win/Mac), ArcSoft PhotoStudio (Win/Mac), and ScanSoft OmniPage SE OCR (Win/Mac).

Easy and great October 1, 2008 L. Ludwig (Woodland Hills, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I didn't really need this. I'd just bought a Mac, which was incompatible with my Visioneer flatbed scanner, but I still had my Windows PC and Windows as an option on my Mac. But since I could get an additional rebate through my new job, I thought, why not? I don't know how I did without it. This thing is so small, I just put it under my office sofa (it's not very tall). It's also very lightweight. I love how it's powered through my Mac's USB, so no extra power cords. And the software is easy to use and very effective. I'm so happy I bought this. I'm finding more uses for it all the time. Flatbed scanners have come a long way!
Lightweight and portable- I love it! September 30, 2008 J. Starke (St. Augustine, FL) I've only been using this scanner for a few weeks, but it is working great, it stores easily and produces very good scans in color and grayscale.
Canon LiDE 25 Color Scanner September 28, 2008 Tikumaja (Illinois) Does a good job scanning an image, but it is noisier than previous scanners that I've had.
My six-month scanner September 27, 2008 Joneve (NY) I ordered this scanner on March 28th. It stopped working near the end of September, constantly giving an error message to unlock the scanner when it wasn't locked to begin with and refusing to scan or copy. I was sent a replacement after contacting customer service, and on the same day I received the replacement got a voicemail from the company asking me where the return scanner was. The replacement I've received is a LiDE 70 instead of a LiDE 25, and the installation software won't install on my Mac computer. Instead of an install program I get a text file with code. I'm going to add a postscript to this review when it's all over, which I trust it will be someday.
Macintosh users beware September 12, 2008 WGC 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased the model several years ago. I'd been quite happy with it, it worked on my PCs or my Macintoshs. The problem now is Canon has not kept up with the drivers on the Macintosh and since I don't use PCs anymore this unit is dead weight. Searching the Internet for alternate drivers shows me many other people have the same issue with driver software and there seems to be no alternatives. It is not USB 2.0 compatible BTW. It was not designed to be.
