If you are one of those people who truly despise Microsoft then you will be happy to know that there is finally a WordPerfect version that is a decent alternative. But if you work with other people who use Word then you will find that this isn't quite good enough. Although it can handle conversion of documents from and to Word it's just too slow and too inaccurate to be an alternative.
Starting up any of the products in the suite takes up to 20 seconds, most of which there is no indication that anything is happening. Opening a six page Word document took about 15 seconds. This is much slower than even OpenOffice which opens Word documents almost instantaneously. The pdf feature should be a big selling point but I found that even a fairly simple document was incorrectly converted. Trying to edit a pdf with even simple formatting caused the entire section of the document to become incorrectly formatted. Although the list of document formats that WordPerfect supports is huge, many of these formats haven't been used in years and you are extremely unlikely to run into these formats.
Overall, I would recommend OpenOffice as an alternative to the Microsoft suite over WordPerfect unless there were specific WordPerfect features that you require. At a price that is not a significant saving over Microsoft, with no great time-saving features, and with slow loading times of both programs and documents there is little to recommend WordPerfect over the MS Suite or even OpenOffice.

An interesting alternative to Microsoft Office and nearly comparable in price and after some give and take, although unintended by Corel, the features are just about equal. Some may say this program is a bit buggy, but I wouldn't go that far as most of us won't be putting it through such extreme paces trying to find a good benchmark for it.
A lot of Business, Legal, Government and Industry professionals have been using this program in its earlier version for years. The Master Documents feature is one of its strongest features, allowing you to build huge documents out of separate files and manage them seamlessly, much fast and far better than the old `cut and paste'. Lightning Note helps the user to achieve this and embeds itself into right-click menus that one can easily get adjusted to.
Some things about this program seemed a bit hyped, like the PDF support and handling which is hit or miss, mostly miss -- and Quattro Pro is honestly a poor substitute for Excel, especially Excel 2007.
While some users may have recently abandoned Microsoft Office permanently because of the 2007 Office release being such a strange departure from all its previous versions and upsetting a large portion of its base of users, I don't believe that this is the program to supplant it. OpenOffice, a free program, is a still a strong rival in this market and will continue to force the two largest Office program suppliers to better their wares.

I think I'm falling in love with WordPerfect. Well the word processor part of it anyway. As far as the spreadsheet or presentation part of the program is concerned, I can't comment as I don't use those type of programs and hopefully, I never will have to. I can't imagine anything more boring than to have to work with a spreadsheet all day long. Numbers, brrrr.
But as far word processing is concerned, this is a real nice program. However, I miss the live word count you get with Word. Still the word count is only a click away. I like the fast and intuitive spell checker, like the thesaurus, the dictionary, the outline function. I do most of my work in Page View, because I like to see what I'm going to get as I'm working and I'm pleased to say that Page View is every bit as fast as Draft View. The Preview in Browser View is kind of curious, I'd never use it, but I suppose if you're designing a website it would be handy.
Inserting graphics is easy and I like the way the words flow around them, though that's another feature I'd never use, expect for playing around. The font menu is nice, especially the way it displays the fonts, the numbering feature works a peach and I use it all the time.
The page looks good onscreen and that's important.
However, I'm not a big fan of how you go about creating headers and footers. Too many clicks. Too confusing. I should have been able to figure it out without playing around. That's not a deal breaker though. I did figure it out. All in all, I'd have to say this is a nicealternative to Word, but as an alternative, I'd think it should be a little less expensive. Still, a great program, WordPerfect is, price not withstanding, like I said in my opening paragraph, I think I'm falling in love with it.

My older brother is an attorney and so he's been a long time WordPerfect fan, but me, I've always used Word, I suppose because way back when, when I got my first computer it was already installed on it (I bought the machine used and it came with a ton of software). When I bought my first new computer, I bought Word and just kept upgrading.
However, now that I've tried my lawyer brother's favorite program, I have to say I kind of like it. Will it replace Word on my machine? Probably not, not because I think it's an inferior program, but because I have Word set up exactly the way I want and I guess I'm a creature of habit. I do, however, find myself going to WordPerfect more and more recently. I've had it about a month now and I use it for quick work, you know a note to myself, or a fast letter.
I think one of the reasons I go to WordPerfect, is because I really like the way you can select a section of your document, then roll over the fonts in the font menu and watch as the font in the selected area changes as fast as your roll down the menu. That is neat. If you're doing a flyer or anything that wants an exotic font, this is cool.
So, yeah, I do like the program. I use it and will continue to use it, but for now, for me, it's still
Word's little brother. But according to my brother, if you're an attorney, then you have to have this program, as it's the only WP out there that knows how to format legal documents.

My husband Jack Priest is a writer and a died in the wool Mac person. He loves his MacBook, but my work requires me to live much of my life in the Windows' world and I love my Sony Viao. However, in this day and age where you don't want to check baggage, because of all the hassle, when we travel we only carry one computer with us. His, because his MacBook has XP on it, running in emulation, courtesy of VMware Fusion. So I'm doing this review, using this product on a Mac and I have to say, it's performing exactly as it does on my Viao, superbly.
I've been using WordPerfect for about a month now and I won't be going back to that other, bloated word processor. Somehow, I don't know how, but with WordPerfect the words seem to get on the screen even before I put fingers to keys. Okay, okay, I'm exaggerating, but you get the picture, this is one fast program.
The interface, what can I saw about a WP interface, the cool blue ribbons are cool. I have not customized any of the ribbons. Why would I want to? Everything I need or want is right where I'd expect it, came that way straight out of the box.
There are a lot of features in this program I've not tried out, maybe I never will, I only use it for writing after all, but it sure does what it's supposed to do as far as that's concerned. It gets right out of the way and lets me get right to it without interfering. However, as a writer, I'm a thesaurus girl and I have to say that I just love the thesaurus here, love the way it opens on the bottom of my document, love the way I can click into dictionary or grammar mode. Can you tell I really love WordPerfect. In fact if I was single and WordPerfect were a guy, I'd marry him.
