Solid performer as successor to FrontPage October 9, 2008 texruss (Abilene, Texas) I've used trial versions of SharePoint Designer and Expression Web 1 for about a year and finally bought Expression Web 2 (one copy for my son from Amazon) and a copy at work from another vendor. I've had a web site for 12 years and used FrontPage until Microsoft engineers made FrontPage text-based hyperlinks not work in Vista. Good financial move for them resulting in a web editor update necessity for me. I have other pricey web page editors available, but prefer the simplicity of MS products because I don't need a hi-tech webpage and I don't have the time to learn the other products. I prefer the performance and features of SharePoint Designer over Expression Web, but it's pricey to the point that I can't justify it over the equally solid performer Expression Web. Like FrontPage of old, Expression Web 2 is a no nonsense get it done web page editor that most people will quickly learn how to navigate and easily use it to make nice web pages. It's for ordinary users and business people who need a competent easy to use interface and don't want to spend 1,000 hours mastering esoteric features in high-priced competitor products. Very good value October 7, 2008 Entaune Tyson (Dallas, TX) First off let me say, I'm not a professional web developer, don't have extensive web designing experience, and thirdly, I'm aware that the de facto best professional web design software is Adobe Dreamweaver. With all that being said, this is a very good product. For one, it's loaded with great features, especially good CSS support and nice templates to get started. It's also a very good value for the money because I got my upgrade from Frontpage for less than $100. For people like me, it's better money spent on Expression Web than to spend over triple that amount on Dreamweaver. If you aren't a professional and aren't going to need the full features of Dreamweaver, then this is easily one of your best options for getting into web design. Very user friendly, learning curve is quick, and it's one of the best values for the money spent.
Works GREAT! September 25, 2008 Fuzzy (Michigan, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Upgraded from version 1, wanted the PHP support. I am running VISTA 64 with 8GB RAM and never have any issues with the operation of this software. Thinking of investing in the whole Expression STUDIO package. Expression and VISTA ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
An insulting upgrade months after purchasing Expression Web September 24, 2008 J. Ferris (USA) I wind up doing most of the XHTML & CSS by hand in the code view as Expression Web frequently screws things up. It also does a lousy job of WYSIWYG. What I've done almost never looks like it does when I upload it to the server & test with IE & Firefox. I bought an upgrade to Expression Web after I learned about XHTML & CSS. I had been using Front Page from v98 to v2003 when I decided to upgrade to EW. Only a few months after making the upgrade to EW - I find out that I have to pay AGAIN for an upgrade to EW2. I'd like to have the PHP support this version offers but I think I'll ditch Microsoft for Adobe. Lots more plugins & extensions for the Dreamweaver platform & I'm sick of Microsoft's (can you say VISTA is junk?) GOOOOOOOOO open source! Use open source software & contribute if you like the stuff. Maybe we can put a stake in Microsoft's heart...
Excellent! August 9, 2008 Yvonne C 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I upgraded to Expression Web2 from Front Page. However, even if you are new to web design/maintenance, Expression Web2 is a great product. I also purchased "Expression Web for Dummies" (I couldn't find one for idiots), which is extremely helpful and highly recommended. Between the two of these products, you will be well on your way to designing and maintaining your own web site. First, grab a cup of coffee and a highlighter and start reading "Expression Web for Dummies" to familiarize yourself with the software. Then have at it!
