The Best thing I bought in Years February 3, 2008 Joseph Wayne Powell (Honolulu, Hawaii) I have always loved music to the point where I wanted to make it but never thought it was possible. I thought you had to have like $100,000 ex.. or somthing to that effect so I didn't pursue it until 3-4 years ago. I started of with just trying out demo software Sonar LE, Cubase LE, Ableton Lite, Fruity Loops, Acid Pro & yes I tried all of these for at least 20 days. And Sonar LE got my attention immediatley. I didn't know what MIDI, synths, sample rates etc... was I just used my basic computer audio card (poor quality) plugged in the MIC and frestyled that simple. It anaylized my profile when I started the program & everything made a lil sense after reading the help files so was no problem. But Im not going to post the specs checkout thier website for that lets talk about Sonar 6 PE: Cons: Very easy to use interface even for anyone that is just starting recording, importing MP3s or Waves, creating etc.. Very easy to install I love the fact that you can get almost use any plug-in to work with this DAW. that means more tools to work with eq, exciters, vi's etc.... & there are a lot of free ones of the same quality of the mid range ones. Vocal editing with this program is breath taking. manipulate Pitch, length, speed, cut replace etc.. with the basic functions that come with this program. Easy to use looping, import/export audio & video, Easy to use MIDI functions, and I thought thats was going to be hard not at all.copy, cut, paste, loop, drag & drop, layer, velocity, and a lot of other parameters ann edited Allows you use Rewire clients I use with reason 4 very often but sometimes the programs over power my compter and I have to let it win.(compatiable with most ex. reason, acid pro etc..) Compatiable with MAC/PC 32bit(max 4 GB/64BitOS max 128 GB (64bit OS lets you more RAM 128GB seen a few 32GB but 128 GB almost unheard of and processor that can run it) I bought this computer in 2004 so these specs sound great but now they might as well be from the 90's. I use a 3.0 CPU single core Pent 4, 4 GB ram FSB 533Mhz, 900GB 72k RPM Hard Drive 3 HD combined, with WINXP home edition and I maxed out at 45 Audio tracks at once playing. Yeah a lot. But the better your computer specs are the more tracks you can handle with better quality. At aminimum now a days 2-8 core processors are better options. Compatiable with most audio interfaces. I use PRESONUS FIREBOX work great with it. Lots of bussing options There is a lot more but I don't have the time or the space: Now for the cons: Here is the rough part about the software ASIO drivers it supports them but don't come with its own. Yeah ther is probably someone reading now saying yeah it comes with the hardware exacctly my point. I Might not want to buy their hardware but If its not their ASIO driver you will catch a little flack. It's not a big issue but it's just the principle of the whole thing. All major companies do it so that you buy their stuff. Yes it registers your audio interface and grays out the ASIO driver unless you use the free version that is running around on the internet but I digress. ASIO is better but WDM is GOOD as well. You might get 2 updates a year or something like that. I know why complain at least they are free. Not version but the patches. and beware of installing the audio folder on the same hard drive as the program very bad idea. It automaticallly goes to your my documents folder. I never got an option to change this until after I installed the program and I was recording trying to figure out what is slowing my computer down which led me to 3 different HDs I use for music only. but it took me a while to figure this out. But Overall Excellent Product they offer a 30 day trial of it try it and you'll love it.
Absolutely the best Digital Audio Workstation software available! December 14, 2007 B. Heath (Placerville, CA USA) I've been recording music since the days synthesizers could only produce one note at a time, and have owned many, many types of recording instruments and devices. Sonar 6 Producer Edition comes complete and is capable of producing the sounds of synths, organs, piano's, bass and lead guitars as well as a wide variety of drums sets. This package contains everything one person would need to compose, arrange, record and mix down a complete movie soundtrack and bounce it to CD's (stereo) or go all the way to a 5.1 surround format for DVD applications. I now have a garage full of old, unused keyboards, synthesizers, piano modules and other outdated MIDI equipment because Sonar 6 does and has it all!
Starts nice but get ready... May 12, 2007 Michael Stone-Singer-Songwriter (Colorado, USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The learning curve is huge but worth the climb. The prospects are endless so expect to get lost in this program as with so many others of it's ilk. I would suggest investigating all of the possibilities when it comes to educational software-videos as well.... Michael Stone
Excellent Software even for non-musicians January 6, 2007 Jan Klier (Seattle, WA USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I'm probably not the target audience they had in mind when they made the software. I'm not a musician and don't work in the music industry. My background is in electronics and software. I always loved synthesizers, and would have liked to learn an instrument but never had the patience. This software is great for getting engrossed in music and taking a whole different approach to music for those that aren't pros or gifted with instruments. After reading a few books on musical theory, and getting a few music sheets (online and via books), I find myself entering the notes via the staff view, and the arranging them in surround sound. Also did some of my own music. Very powerful, and well designed user interface, very rich feature set. Many instruments, and note entry for standard staff (piano, violin), fret board/chords (guitar), or drums (pattern, drum map). Use the free web trial which is good for 30 days to see if you like it before buying the full product. At first I shied away from the price tag, but after spending 2 weeks with the web trial I was easily convinced. The producer version is worth the extra money over the studio version if you're interested in 5.1 surround sound.
