Tear through the streets of San Francisco in an uphill (and downhill) battle to beat the clock! Or hop the pond to merry old England and watch the bobby-cops go bloody balmy as you throttle through downtown London.

    Amazon.com Review
Midtown Madness 2 is the exact opposite of the typical racing game. Instead it's the simple racer for which PC speed freaks have been praying. It looks and plays better than most console racers, and while it is definitely an arcade racer and not a full-on driving simulation, that doesn't mean you can play it with your brain in park. The only people who might have a gripe with Midtown 2 are those who played the original to death, as the sequel is only slightly improved from the original. As in the original game, Midtown 2 features wild racing through busy city streets complete with multicar pileups and citizens diving for cover.

This time the action takes place in the streets of San Francisco and London. As expected, San Francisco sports its many landmarks and famous rolling hills, which offer plenty of chances to build up speed for ludicrous stunts. Keep an eye open for the Golden Gate Bridge and the Palace of Fine Arts. London's tight turns and twisting streets put the emphasis on driver skill rather than flat-out speed. Landmarks include Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, and Trafalgar Square. Of course, the secret to success in the Midtown games is to find unconventional shortcuts that can bring about a quick victory.

For the most part players will be racing in standard circuit and checkpoint races. Interestingly, you must unlock most of the 20 cars in the game by finishing a series of races or completing the two in-game driving schools. You can't drive our favorite car--the Aston Martin DB7--until you finish British cabby school, but once you do get it, you'll be a terror on the highways. We only wish more automobiles were available right from the start, as the performance of the cars varies as wildly as their makes and models.

While the cities are interesting to look at and many of the structures contain shortcuts and other secret passages, the overall look of the game is more cartoony than realistic. While the graphics don't stand up against the Need for Speed games, they are more than adequate in their own right. However, you will need a fairly powerful machine to see them in all their cartoony glory. --Mark Brooks

    Pros:

    • Fast-paced driving action
    • Easy to play with a wide variety of cars
    • London and San Francisco look just enough like their real counterparts to be worth exploring even when not racing
    Cons:
    • Too many vehicles need to be unlocked by completing various tasks
    • Graphics, while decent, aren't the most up-to-date
    • If you've played the first game, there really isn't a lot here you haven't seen already

    Amazon.com Product Description
Let this game manage your road rage. Midtown Madness 2, sequel to one of the biggest sellers of 1999, is an over-the-top street racer where the focus is more on fun than it is on racing etiquette. This version builds on the gameplay of the first, and adds San Francisco and London--complete with accurate street maps and landmarks--to the itinerary. Also added to the vehicle roster are nine new urban machines, such as the Freightliner fire truck and a traditional English taxicab. The game is designed for you to explore your shortcuts, so go ahead and take that brand new Mustang down Lombard Street or cut across Hyde Park. You can bring your driving abilities up to speed in the game's crash-course mode, where you can unlock cool new cars and races by completing some skill-building exercises.

4 out of 5 stars Midtown Madness 2 meeds my standards of a good game but can improve   May 30, 2007

For a racing game its pretty good but the game lags alot if you go really fast and the graphics could use an update. There is a good variety of cars and two nice maps(Sanfansico and London) although you will probably like San Fransico better. You might enjoy Midtown Madness 1 more since you can actually destroy the police cars and for the weather, you can make it snow. Also the races aren't as challenging as Midtown Madness1 but just more qauntity.I perfer challenging races than alot of easier races. They also have a Sf stunt school and a London Cabbie which are somewhat challenging. Also, some of cars might have difficulty going on sidewalks or traveling through dirt. The game is good overall and could be worth buying depending on the person. For these reason I think it deserves a rating of a 4.

4 out of 5 stars Endless fun and laughter.   April 3, 2007
This is one of the best racing games out there. Instead of being landlocked in a certain racing circuit, as in other games, you get to goof around in the cities of London and San Francisco. It is just one of the most fun things in the world to smash the living cheese out out of the traffic and the cops. I could do it for days; it is just so hilarious. But if you think the game is pointless, there are racing modes with CPUs. You can do all this in 25 cars (some need to be unlocked). It is also possible to download cars off the internet, including exotic Ferraris and Lamborghinis. Endow all this goodness with online LAN capability, and that makes Midtown Madness II a classic.

    5 out of 5 stars Great!   July 14, 2006

This game is excellent! I only have the free trial but I may even buy it later. If you can adjust the weather conditions and the time of day, then why can't you even turn on your car's light or apply the wipers? Anyway, I have lost the shortcut for midtrial.exe, but I installed another game and it went fine.
Hmm, wonder if the system requirements are not nearly symmetrical for each game/different type.
I have installed the lexus is 300, but I will be downloading more later on.
Well, anyway, I have gotten ALL the vehicles available for a truck simulator game called 18 Wheels of Steel: Across America.
    I've gotten Hard Truck 2.
I will be browsing the Web for more info about this game.
If I can, and it seems good, I will DEFINETLY buy it. Oh ok.
I think you want me to stop?

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Game   July 29, 2005

Whether it's jumping over Lombard Street in San Francisco or Racing in Hyde Park in London, Midtown Madness 2 is fun and exciting in every way. This software includes cruise mode, blitz, checkpoint, and circuit races along with crash courses (Driving schools) in both San Francisco and London. Twenty vehicles range from a Double Decker Bus to a Panoz GTR-1. Jumping on to buildings and driving police cars into the water add to the fun. I rated this software five stars meaning that I highly recommend it.
