Endless repetition of missions September 26, 2008 Ensign Suder I bought this game based on my experience with MS CFS and CFS2. This is nothing like them. I know other reviews have apologized for making the game sound bad. Trust me: it really is that bad. It would have to improve significantly just to stink. The missions are boring. I know war can be an endless repetion, but come on. There are basically three missions you can fly: go bomb ground targets; go bomb ships; or intercept incoming aircraft. If you fly successive sorties of the same mission type, you will quickly become frustrated and bored. Ground targets are not to scale. Neither are the ships. Your hud will continue to identify targets as "hot" even if you've destroyed them. (Truck convoys are the worst. They can all be smoking piles of rubble and your hud will defiantly indicate that there is still one down there. The battle lines seem to move regardless of the outcomes of your missions. There is no infomration on what strategies will help you achieve success. I've played through several campaigns, and lost each one without really understanding what I did wrong. Mission briefs all read the same. You never get promotions, and it is almost impossible to score a medal. Forget getting two. You can empty your guns into enemy planes before they die. But if you take one hit, your aircraft is uncontrollable. In summary, this game is not worth owning. Not at all.
Not quuiitee a 5, but almost February 22, 2008 God (Area 51) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
If you consider this your life (I dont, ok, all things straightened out) its like you have ur job, a house, a steady paycheck, a good amount of money in the bank, a nice car. But there is something missing, its like, not having a wife or girlfriend. Its missing something, I dont know what, but there is defenitley something missing, well, I dont know Summary: A great load of fun, but like I said, its missing something
Disappointment January 8, 2008 Michael R. Losey (Alexandria, VA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
How Microsoft ever developed the neat original Combat Flight Simular and then went backwards is beyond me. This new simulator is a real disappointment. They do not even have a training section for landings... which everyone liked to use in the old package. Or it is too hard to find for if it is there I cannot find it. UGH.... Mike L
Not for Vista January 7, 2008 David Stone 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Very real, very good directions and support. Plan on spending a lot of time reading and studying directions and tactics. Just like being there. But it will not play correctly on Windows Vista, even set to XP compatability.
Not particularly impressive November 19, 2007 JAMES JOHNSON (Tacoma, WA USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is not a very good sim. If you want an outstanding combat flight simulator purchase IL2 Sturmovik 1946. I should have known better than buy this Microsoft turkey. I've been playing all the versions of IL2 since 2003 and it's still the best. IL2 + TrackIR + Saitek X52 joystick and throttle + Saitek rudder pedals = many hours entertainment.
