I've worked in Access since version 1.0 but never took the time to really learn how to write my own VBA code. After spending years begging/borrowing from other developers I finally decided to learn VBA myself. After searching the internet for a good book, I took Mike's free offer to download several lessons to try out. I very quickly knew his teaching method was perfect for my learning style and coupled perfectly with my familiarity with Access.
I just finished going through the book and finally feel confident that I can now take the applications I have already built to far greater levels. Mike's method starts with simple data tables and builds precept upon precept to deliver reliable instructions that give the learner the ability to immediately put the new skills to work.
My next step will be to continue to practice what I've learned, and continue to learn more complex VBA coding skills.

One of the many advantages to shopping at Amazon, in my opinion, is to have the reviews from the actual users of these products to compare. When looking for any book regarding technology, one certainly can not rely on the cover or publisher's notes.
The other reviewers of the Learn Access 2003 VBA who rated it highly are accurately reviewing the contents of Mike Smart's book.
When I recently received this book from Amazon I glanced through it and began my usual method of a quick read through it to get a conceptual overview of the contents. The manner in which the author presents the material is well organized and clearly explained. I enjoyed his style of presenting the material so much I literally couldn't put it down. Very unusual for me for a technical subject book.
This is a wonderful introduction to the VBA language for Access, and I highly recommend it.

I have absolutely learned more from Mike Smart's book than I have from the pile of other books about Access 2003 VBA I own.
I had some questions and sent an email with my question. I was very pleasantly surprised to be answered by Mike Smart himself!
I rated the book 5 stars, but would have given more than 5 if they were available!

Mike Smart's "Learn Access 2003 VBA with the Smart Method" is a real solution to any number of problems you may face when trying to get an Access database to perform functions outside of what the built-in wizards can produce. Mr. Smart introduces and reinforces good, consistent programming habits that have had immediate and positive impact on the projects I'm working on for databases that help us manage bidding, awarding of subcontracts and job cost tracking in the highway construction industry.
I can also speak to the book's instructional quality, having been a technology trainer and curriculum developer for 13 years. Mr. Smart's explanation of the code is clear and engaging. The practice labs are thoughtful and will build your skills if you attack them with your full attention. What I found useful was to practice with a lab and then get to work immediately on designing some functionality into our work-related database in order to capitalize on what Mr. Smart is teaching.
As if the wealth of knowledge in the book weren't enough, Mr. Smart makes himself accessible to his readers, answering our "outside-the-box" questions in a timely fashion if we get stuck trying to expand on topics introduced in the book. If you have some Access experience and want to forge into programming to build better solutions, this book should be just right for you.
