Amazon.com What do you want to write today? If you're using Office 2000, Running Microsoft Word 2000 can help you assemble that document better and faster than you'd have imagined. Designed as a reference rather than a tutorial, the book's format works best for everyone from the longtime Word user to the recent convert. Those who want a guided tutorial may want to look to Microsoft Word 2000 Step by Step instead; it will take you from the basics to the dizzying heights of Word 2000 mastery, making Running more accessible later on. Running's smart indexing makes it a snap to find the tip, trick, diagram, or instructions you need to give your pages the right look, while the text's clarity will reduce time wasted trying to figure out what button or menu you need to use. Whether you want to find the one hotkey that'll save your sanity or step-by-step directions for creating a Web page, Running Microsoft Word 2000 will point you down the right path. Since this is a Microsoft Press publication, you won't find many bugs, traps, or weaknesses mentioned; for these you'll need to get customer support or a book from another publisher. But for straightforward document creation and handling, this is as good a reference as you can get. --Rob Lightner

Well Done, but Tough to Find Something Quickly March 7, 2001 rodboomboom (Dearborn, Michigan United States) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
I find this very useful, but cumbersome. What I think the subject matter might be labeled as, hardly is. Takes one more time than it should to search the index and try to find the appropriate section. For instance, try finding the typeover material quickly. It's there, but not indexed at all. Or another, try and find how to do a book print.Once you do find the appropriate section, the material is consise and laid out well. The illustrations of the screens are helpful and well done. Wish they would spend more time indexing thoroughly with cross-indexing, etc.
Running MS Word 2000 June 7, 2000 Alex I. (Sizzling --> Arizona :-)) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
Just a quick note: I thought this technical book was very well written in an easy to follow manner. It is not just jam backed with text; it has lots of illustrations to make it easy to follow along. This book is good for novices and experienced users who might not be familiar with all the MS Word features. As a developer it wasn't as useful because it didn't go into much detail about programming, nevertheless it is a good stepping stone.
Outstanding Resource May 24, 2000 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
As an instructor, I have searched for clear and comprehensive resources to recommend. Mail merge and forms are covered in easy to read sections that I have had difficulty finding in other guides. I would recommend it for both beginners and experienced users.
Clear, comprehensive, and indispensable guide to Word 2000 May 7, 1999 23 out of 23 found this review helpful
This all-in-one guide to Microsoft Word satisfies the needs of novice and advanced users alike. The layout is appealing and effective. As a Web designer, I appreciate the detailed descriptions and numerous screen illustrations of Word 2000's advanced Web publishing features. Fortunately, saving HTML pages will be much more convenient with the new "Saving a Web Page" feature, which allows a pages componenet files to be saved in any chosen location. If you want to take full advantage of the extensive power of Word 2000, or if you just want to understand its many features a bit better, I recommend having this how-to guide by your side. If you are an experienced Word user, the new features are easily found.
