Book Description The highly anticipated follow-up to the 2,000,000 copy bestselling inspirational book, The Power of Now With his bestselling spiritual guide The Power of Now, Eckhart Tolle inspired millions of readers to discover the freedom and joy of a life lived "in the now." In A New Earth, Tolle expands on these powerful ideas to show how transcending our ego-based state of consciousness is not only essential to personal happiness, but also the key to ending conflict and suffering throughout the world. Tolle describes how our attachment to the ego creates the dysfunction that leads to anger, jealousy, and unhappiness, and shows readers how to awaken to a new state of consciousness and follow the path to a truly fulfilling existence. The Power of Now was a question-and-answer handbook. A New Earth has been written as a traditional narrative, offering anecdotes and philosophies in a way that is accessible to all. Illuminating, enlightening, and uplifting, A New Earth is a profoundly spiritual manifesto for a better way of lifeand for building a better world. About the Author ECKHART TOLLE is a contemporary spiritual teacher who is not aligned with any particular religion or tradition. In his writing and seminars, he conveys a simple yet profound message with the timeless and uncomplicated clarity of the ancient spiritual masters: There is a way out of suffering and into peace. Makes some good points May 22, 2008 When I read a book I will always try and see what I can learn from it, how it applies to me. There were certain points in the books that I could certainly relate to. However I do agree with previous post in that he does repeat a lot of the same thing, but it is a good read.
I have not have finished reading the book, however it has helped me in certain points in my life. For example; (1)Eating (lol) yes eating! I have become more aware as to what I am eating and how much of it. Making better food choices with some simple changes within my way of thinking. Providing the body with more of what it needs then what it wants - eating is becoming less of an issue. (2) Being present in 'Today.' So many times we do get lost into our thoughts, thinking "what's next?", "I have to do this and this and that then I will be happy, complete" which is almost never the case. I complete what I need to complete, but also take time to really listen appreciate the moments (memories) when I am with my child or with friends. (3) Anger - is it really worth it? Is it really worth it getting offended by a simple word, expression that someone made? ***Of course still need work in this area but it has improved. I feel as I am more aware of the moment-
The only reason I did not give it five stars is because it does repeat it self somewhat. Of course this is a book that has many key points that will help you, but it easy to overlook it with the wealth of information it offers, so I will probably re-read it, in a few months.
I would recomend it as a good read, what do you have to lose?
A new perspective of an old world May 22, 2008 I am sure you all have experienced a book that came along at the right and changed your life. Well, A New Earth did this for me. I am retiring this year and I honestly feel that it will be the best time of my life.
Due to living the message in this book retirement will be a Renaissance for me. I will be able to live each day in acceptance, enjoyment and at times with enthusiasm. I needed to let go of the past, let go of being a victim and stop worrying about the future. It sounded like an impossible task for me until I read Eckhart's words and asked myself...."What is my relationship with the present moment?"
What I have learned is that it is my choice, and I chose to live in the Now.
Thanks Echart!
New Earch May 22, 2008 The author is more or a philosopher than most "How to Books". I found it very hard to follow what he was trying to get the reader to do to make their life easier.
Ego, Get Away May 22, 2008 This book contains no new information; it does, however, express it in a unique fashion. To anyone who has read self-help, psychology, or spirituality books, this book will likely be disappointing.
Mr. Tolle gets directly to each of his points. He has no elegance of languance, no nuance, no finesse. His language is authoritarian and professorial. He conveys his message that the ego runs our lives and that we can enrich our lives by getting beyond the ego's boundaries in an understandable manner. However, I found the book's efficiency of language actually to be a distraction from its message.
I would not discourage anyone from reading the book. The message is important. I simply prefer to read the message written by a better author.
Searching For The Meaning May 21, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I rate this book a four because it does stress that in essence allowing the ego to lead is like putting the cart before the horse. However, the book requires attention to really get a handle on the writer's meaning. For anyone new to this type of material I think the material would be even more difficult. In my latest novel, Standup Comedian: The Secret and Beyond I wrote, "The real secret is to always want that which is best for All That Is." Once a person begins to want that his or her ego diminishes in strength correspondingly. Pretty simple actually.
