Product Description
The House of Night series is set in a world very much like our own, except in 16-year-old Zoey Redbird's world, vampyres have always existed. In this first book in the series, Zoey enters the House of Night, a school where, after having undergone the Change, she will train to become an adult vampire--that is, if she makes it through the Change. Not all of those who are chosen do. It’s tough to begin a new life, away from her parents and friends, and on top of that, Zoey finds she is no average fledgling. She has been Marked as special by the vampyre Goddess, Nyx. But she is not the only fledgling at the House of Night with special powers. When she discovers that the leader of the Dark Daughters, the school's most elite club, is misusing her Goddess-given gifts, Zoey must look deep within herself for the courage to embrace her destiny--with a little help from her new vampyre friends.

High school....but good. July 5, 2008 P. Rainey (Burbank,CA) Its high school, but good. I also like that its a completely different take on vampires...Original. Liked it enough to come back to Amazon to buy the rest of the series.
Enchanting YA Review: Marked July 4, 2008 Enchanting Reviews MARKED P.C. CAST AND KRISTIN CAST Rating: 5 Enchantments Sixteen year old Zoey Redbird is just like any other typical teenager, worrying over the geometry test she has to take tomorrow-that is, until she's marked by a tracker and her entire world changes. Everyone knows what happens next, Zoey needs to go to the House of Night, the vampire finishing school to complete the change or else she could die without ever having the chance to complete the change. MARKED is unlike any paranormal I've ever read. P.C Cast and Kristin Cast create an intriguing paranormal world in which to set the House of Night series. There are stages to becoming a full fledged adult vampire, and at any point in time, a fledgling's body can reject the change, as Zoey soon learns, perhaps a nice foreshadowing of things to come? Zoey isn't your average vampire fledgling. Her mark is colored in almost immediately, which makes her somewhat of a freak at House of Night and an easy target for the bitchier brigade, led by Aphrodite, the head of the Dark Daughters and Sons, a selective group of students at the House of Night. Zoey would be happy to stay far away from Aphrodite and her cohorts, only her mentor, the High Priestess Neferet encourages her to join the Dark Daughters. As Zoey can't say no to her new mentor, she finds herself at the ritual. And when things later get out of control, it may be Zoey is the only one who can right things, much to the chagrin of her nemesis. I was hooked from page one into this amazing book. From Zoey's indifferent parents (I literally cheered when she snuck out of the house to get away from them) to Nyx, the goddess, the story is populated with amazing characters who come alive within the pages of MARKED. MARKED is the first book in the House of Night series. [...] Lisa Enchanting Reviews May 2008
The Compulsive Reader's Reviews July 3, 2008 The Compulsive Reader (Big Rapids, MI, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
When Zoey is Marked, all hopes of fitting in at her suburban high school seem to suddenly vanish. She already feels like a stranger in her own family, and when her religious step-father finds out that Zoey has been Marked to undergo training to become a vampyre, he is convinced that she is evil, and together, he and her mother refuse to accept that Zoey has only two options...learn how to become a vampyre, or die. Fitting in at her new school, The House of Night, is nearly impossible as well, for the goddess of the night, Nyx, has bestowed special powers upon Zoey, making her the most powerful fledgling in history, and earning her many enemies. But Zoey is not alone. With the help of some newfound friends, her spiritual Cherokee grandmother, and her mentor, she will learn to embrace her talents and take the first step to righting the many sinister happenings at The House of Night. Marked is riveting and fast paced right from the very start. Zoey's biting wit and easygoing, honest demeanor make Marked an easy read to get sucked in to (no pun intended). While the exposition of the story may seem a bit too hasty, the Casts make up for it in suspense and remarkable character development, in not just Zoey, but every person, friend or foe. The tone of the novel is pitched perfectly, and it includes references to drug, alcohol, and sex without being graphic, but entirely realistic and plausible. The Casts certainly know how to speak teens' language, bringing us a thrilling novel that will make the heart pound, the mind race, and will ultimately capture the imagination.
Fantastic read! July 1, 2008 K. Katrina (Philadelphia, PA) I really enjoyed this book. It is a fast read and is interlaced with some great vocabulary words. I highly recommend it, especially to female teens. Don't start it at night, though, for you won't put the book down until you are done reading.
Girly Vampire Fun June 30, 2008 Moschell This novel is targeted at teens. Maybe a little too much. Everybody looks like some movie star when they're being described. And the mind set seems to be targeting to peppy teen spirit. Personally I don't think that way, and I pity anyone who does. Heck I don't even think the most peppiest cheerleader thinks that way, but hey what do I know. So it was safe to say when I started reading this book I was annoyed. In fact I thought about quitting. I put the book aside and walked away. Two seconds later I came back franatically searched for my spot and continued reading. Even though the it rubbed me the wrong way, like I might be reading a teen gossip book and this was a trap, I had to finish. This book just grips you, making you have to go and buy everything you can. The book is really fun mixing those girly fantasy dreams and vampire fun in one. You know the escaping from home to some magical place, or transforming into something that can fly. Instead, of course, this is different but it reminisce those good little fantasy times. Except the world has always lived with vampires, when you are marked by vampire you go to a school and can be turned. The process of course goes to a certain age (which I'm pretty sure isn't set? Or is it eighteen?) until they can become a real vampire, but the effects start before the turning. The vampire anarchy is really well done. Vampires who think their special and superior, the pacifists, the lowly treated vamps, and the fearing people. It's nice that the authors can build the story nicely and make it believable. Mixing history and myths together. Though it is tiring in the story when the main character is the chosen one. And everything falls right into their laps. Great power, really no work, just have to get past the resenting teenager, and maybe a sneaky adult in the future. She has the friends which is always a plus. But she gets the boyfriend, power, station, and special sticker-star with out a blink. A little annoying but doesn't hurt the novel to much. I think what was really well done is that the authors emphasis that not everyone can make it to being a full fledged vamp. And that if you don't you die. The weight was nicely put on so that you could believe it, but the kids could still keep going with that teenage mind set. `It could happen to me, but hey maybe not.' **** So in the end the novel is a good read. Fast paced and gripping. Some of the material may offend readers. Sex is emphasized, but this is a vampire book, that's part of their nature. The teen targeting may annoy others, maybe even stop them from enjoying the book. But it's still a good read. A new vision in the vampire/urban fantasy genre. Surely something to look into. Hey you may even enjoy the vampire and girly-power-fantasy all in one.
