Product Description Mackenzie Allen Philips' youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later in the midst of his Great Sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend. Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on a wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change Mack's world forever. In a world where religion seems to grow increasingly irrelevant "The Shack" wrestles with the timeless question, "Where is God in a world so filled with unspeakable pain?" The answers Mack gets will astound you and perhaps transform you as much as it did him. You'll want everyone you know to read this book!

Awesome! July 18, 2008 Donna J. Hughes (Dallas, Georgia) Any time a book makes me think, I like it. This allegory gave me a chance to explore my daily walk with God, and how much He loves us all! Truly a book to read again and again!
Heart of God July 18, 2008 manbooks (Maui) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I read this book on Resurrection Sunday. I finished it in one day. I could not put it down. I am aware that some of the imagry Young uses to depict the Trinity will be offensive to some. Also, the idea of a God who really, really wants to fellowship with us, and who loves us WITHOUT CONDITION is more than some can believe. Nevertheless, I went through every point of the book where it challenged conventional orthodoxy, and I was able to find Scripture that supported the story. Young is NOT a universalist. He does NOT say that "all roads lead to God". What he DOES say is that God has reconciled the world to Himself through Jesus Christ, and that He will go to great lengths to reach us with that message. If some will not accept it, there is another place they can go, by their own choice. But for those who receive, "To them He gave the power to become His Children . . . ".
BE ON GUARD WHEN READING THIS- IT'S ONLY 100% FICTION July 18, 2008 Sealed in His Kingdom, 7-16-01 (USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
To the believers and non believers of Jesus Christ: understand that this book is purely fiction. If you want to understand God and His divine plan for you and everyone else, you need only read His divine word found in the Holy Bible. The Holy Spirit will lead you in understanding God's word. I read 'The Shack' from front to back. In fact, I even read the post scripts at the end and the endorsements on the back cover. Many things troubled me as I read; much like other reviewers have noted. The "Missy Project" that is mentioned at the end of the book is all about getting a copy of this book into everyone's hands... I'd much rather have a copy of the Holy Bible in everyone's hand- that is where God's divine Truth may be found. 'The Shack' won't lead you to this understanding; nor will the book's and/or the author's websites. Please understand that Jesus is the ONLY way to Our Holy Father, have you accepted His precious gift of salvation? If you have, praise Him and give abundant thanks for being one of the chosen that will walk the narrow path into His glorious and everlasting kingdom! See you there! In the meantime, pray for strength to weather difficult and trying times until you reach your final destination. All things are possible through Christ! <><
God, Approachable and Embracing July 18, 2008 B. Klees (Dublin, CA United States) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This true story reveals God in a way that is approachable and embracing. The concepts are exposed through a narrative using universally understandable emotions, situations, and imagery. We see a glimpse of God's fondness for His children, each and every one. A love and relationship amongst the Holy Trinity (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) is illustrated beautifully and naturally. By the end you will have a new perspective of God's perspective. The story will pull at your heart strings in new and unexpected ways. It will lead you closer to Jesus' love, and His power to save your life. The following works are also an excellent compliment to "The Shack": The Complete C.S. Lewis Signature Classics Deeper: Living in the Reality of God's Love The Sacred Romance Drawing Closer To The Heart Of God Wild at Heart: Discovering the Secret of a Man's Soul
PLEASE - It's fiction!!!! July 18, 2008 Damon J. Loomis (Northridge, CA USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Please remember that this book is fictional! The Godhead described is not the God of the Holy Scriptures. Someone gave me this book and after reading it I tried think of a way I could describe it concisely. (There are at least 2 one star reviews that are excellent, one by Michael Burton, and the other by Tim Challies.) This book has a little bit (a very little bit) of true Christianity mixed with a fair amount of psychology, and a lot of fantasy . . . which gives you a theological mess and a distorted view of God. It appears that the book it is attempt to make God into an image that our fallen human psyche can be more comfortable with. The author may have experienced his own sufferings (we all do), but this book is not the best book to give to people who have suffered, or who are suffering. They need a true picture of a God who is holy and perfect and compassionate, not a silly humanistic picture of God. The God of the Bible will comfort and give us peace in spite of the turmoil we may be in. But we must come to a true knowledge of Him before we can realize the blessings that He freely offers us through the Lord Jesus Christ. How would God answer "Mack's" questioning of Himself? Maybe it would be the same as what God said to Job in chapters 38-42 of the book of Job. And "Mack" should respond as Job did, even though Job apparently never was told by God why he suffered such great loss. Some better books would be "Is God Really in Control?" by Jerry Bridges, or regarding a loss of a child, "Safe in the Arms of God" by John MacArthur.
